Transfer Visa Stamp & 90 Day Notification

Featured Replies

Hello,

I recently had to get a new passport due to running out of pages. I got a letter from the embassy asking Thai immigration to transfer my visa (non-immigrant B ). Problem is that my embassy cancelled my old passport and I also have to submit my 90 day notification which is dated April 6 and my last day is April 13.

Question: Can I do the 90 day notification first OR will I have to transfer the visa and then take care of the 90 day notification?

Thank you,

Avshin (American, non-retired)

Immigration do not transfer Visas.

Only Immigration stamps.

You could do the 90 day report and have the stamps transferred in the same trip to immigration.

FYI the 6th is a holiday and immigration will be closed.

Ok, I edited my original post to make it clear we're talking about a visa and not a stamp.

If you have a visa you don't normally need to make 90 day reports because you have to leave the country every 90 days. Do you have non-ba visa that gives a one year entry?

You will need to use both passports until your visa expires. They will not transfer a visa.

If you really do have a "Non Imm B " VISA then it is unlikely that 90 day reports are required.

Hello Ubonjoe,

Thanks for your help. Yes, I have a year long Non-Immigrant B visa.

I think you have an extension you applied for at immigration. Which means you do have stamps to be transferred.

A standard multiple entry non-b visa gives unlimited 90 day entries for one year. It does not allow you to stay for a year.

Ubonjoe,

Thank you. Argh, so complicated. Ok, so thinking back, yes a standard non-immigrant B, then an extension stamp. So there is a stamp!

Now that is clarified, the question remains.

Do both tasks on the same day !

It always pays to know exactly what is in ones passport !

Then you have an extension of stay and, except for historical reference, the visa is irrelevant and has probably expired or will do so soon.

The visa is what you use to enter the country. Your stay in Thailand is governed by your permission to stay or extension of stay given you by immigrations, not a visa issued by an embassy or consulate.

You need to take both passports to immigrations to transfer information about your current stay in Thailand to the new passport, then make the 90 day report using your new passport.

Ok, same, same but different. I have O-A based on retirement (extension of stay-yes I understand the difference) and will need new passport before I do my extension of stay and multi-entry permit. I will not have a passport when my 90 day report rolls around. My passport will either be in mail or still at American Embassy. I understand from Citizens Service that I will have a letter from them stating I'm in the process of getting new passport. Will the letter suffice for the 90 day?

That's what I was afraid of, I only have one morning to take care of this and I'm unsure I can get both done. So transfer the stamp to the new passport then do the 90 day report. Got it.

I appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Avshin

Unless you are applying for your passport at a consular outreach you will get your old passport back as soon as your application is done for the new one.

It only takes about 10 days to get the new passport.

I understand the about 10 days, no guarantee. Consular Outreach 17th (hated Songcrap still happening here) and then my 90 day is due 29th. Possible it might return in time but if old passport doesn't return with I will not be able to renew (transfer?) extension of stay at the 90 day and then what? I do not want to start all over. I do not want to go to Bangkok, I don't know if passport can be done in Vietiane. I would suspect Vientiane sends passport to BKK also. I'll get the wife to speak with the lady she knows from her village at immigration this week. Then again, what is "the word" today at immigration is subject to change tomorrow.

You have 7 days to do your 90 day report after the report date including that date in the count. The 90 day report is not an extension.

When is you extension of stay due.

I think the embassy will send your old passport back to you separate from the new one if you buy another EMS envelope from them.

I don't Vientiane will do the passport for you. I am sure they submit the application direct to the state department.and give the old passport back to you.

I understand the old passport does not come back with new. If, if it gets here same time no problem, unless there is a problem with not having any passport for 90 day report. Extension of stay due 18 May. I know we are supposed to have 7 days on 90 day, believe me, you won't get it in Udon. You better be there by the time. I also realize the 90 day is not an extension but can do if I have passport at that time and will have to do once new passport is here. The reason I have to get new passport now is when I do extension of stay I will only have 5 months and a couple of weeks left on old passport.

You will not be able to do the 90 day report without your passport.

I don't recall any reports of Udon immigration not honoring the 7 day rule. It would just be a 2000 baht fine for late reporting if they don't.

But what about the 15 days before the report date allowance. You could do it before you apply for your passport renewal.

Also does Udon allow mail in reports. You only need a copy of your passport for that.

I'll probably try the early report, or just cross the border. My wife can talk to her friend from village in Immigration but like I said, the word is subject to change. I know for a fact that Udon will not honor the 7 day period, and it won't just be 2,000 bht. It will be 5,000 and a stamp in your passport. I've tried the early 90 day long ago when they were at airport, didn't go over so well but things have changed a bit. I don't trust the mail and the mail is basically shut down that week due to songcrap. Online report?????? Thanks.

The online report is a maybe. I have not been able to get past the first page where you enter your personal info yet. Just get told to contact my local office.

The border crossing to Vientiane sounding better all the time, besides I have a good reason to go. Thanks, in spite of the "not good news" at least I know what I have to do.

@ sgtsabai ................... I am in Udon Thani and I ALWAYS do my 90 day report up to a week early.

In Fact I did my report today ( due 6th April). In and out in 10 mins. I posted today in visa info thread, that I was Unable to apply for extension of permission to stay today as it is due 6th May and was told it can ONLY be done up to 30 days in advance , so I will go for extension some time during the month .

www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/813832-immigration-udon-thani/

Thanks for the info, but I'll have to do 90 day at least 2 weeks before due. Possible maybe, but I can't take that chance. One week, yea shouldn't be a problem, I usually do my extension of stay a week in advance because one never knows what has changed or may be required that wasn't before. Udon Immigration has been very good since moving from the airport, but I don't want to push my luck. I'll just go spend the day in Lao sometime this or next week. I hear songcrap isn't quite as bad there and I know it isn't in Nong Khai as in Udon.

OP, just take your cancelled passport together with your new passport, go to your immigation office, and let them transfer the requiered stamps to your new passport, they know what to do. They will also change the passportnumber of your departure card in the computer system, so you can do your 90-days report immediately after that.
