Missing tigers remain a mystery at Tiger Temple

BANGKOK: -- Police, soldiers and relevant park authorities are returning to the so-called Tiger Temple in Kanchanaburi province today as missing tigers remains a mystery.

They made returning with court order after yesterday inspection of the temple failed to get any progress after the temple refused to give cooperation for the combined team.

The team was conducting an investigation into an alleged disappearance of three tigers from the temple following fresh complaints.

Adisorn Nutdumrong, director-general of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, led police, soldiers, veterinarians and officials from the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry to the Wat Pa Luangta Maha Bua Temple to probe the alleged disappearance of three tigers from the temple yesterday.

The three tigers are among seven Bengal tigers which the department under former director general Plodprasob Suraswadee seized from the temple in 2001 but left them under care of the temple after it promised to look after them.

The three missing tigers are 3-7 years of age.

The authorities also brought with them microchip scanners to identify if there is any missing tiger.

Located in Sai Yok district, the temple now houses a total of 146 tigers.

However authorities could not conduct the probe after temple staffs refused to open the temple and unlock tiger cages.

The authorities said they would seek a search warrant from the court and return to the temple again today.

They plan to confiscate all tigers from the temple and transfer them to a sanctuary in Ratchaburi province if they find that the temple is unable to take care of the tigers. Concerned authorities had already impounded more than 100 hornbills from the temple, which are suspected to be involved in illegal trade.

The holy saffron brothers cheating and stealing in the name of Buddha again!!

So many monks in Thailand are a true disgrace to the wows they have taken!!

Maybe they had their fingers crossed behind their backs when taking the vows so they are not bound by them.whistling.gif

If it's found they broke the law, and they're convicted in court - send 'em to prison like anyone else who broke the same law. Unfortunately, they're probably immune from going to a court and facing charges - like you and me would go to if we broke the law.

Thailand is much too stratified socially for its own good. It needs to haul itself in to the 21st century.

the offcial color for prison wear is orange is it not? round them up and they will be harder to locate once beded down with those still in training.

No, it's not, the official prison colour in Thailand is whatever colour you want, if you don't have your own the prison will provide brown shirts and shorts.

Monks are not immune from prosecution at all but don't let facts ruin your moan.

A tour guide in Bangkok who takes tourists there told me if you go behind the temple you can see the head monks shiny top of the range Mercedes. Thailand is known to be a major supplier of tigers and tiger parts to the Chinese market. Those in the know have been saying for years that this place is heavily involved in the illegal trade. Should be shut down and all the animals there confiscated. Why were officials denied entrance if nothing to hide?

'Missing' suggests nobody knows where they are; that they just wandered off and got lost. Anyone with 2/5ths of a brain knows that these Tigers, or at least parts of them, have been smuggled away probably to end up in some erection inducing formula somewhere in China.

Is a court order not more powerful than a warrant - as 44 now imposed they don't need warrant - arrest every monk throw them in jail until they do the checks on the Tigers and if 3 missing are found release them (the monks) if not keep them in jail until someone talks

Because of the chaotic breeding program etc. at the teple I think it is going to be pretty much impossible to ID the tigers...

The tigers are only there as an attraction,to solicit money from overseas

and local tourists, they have nothing to do with Buddhism, just the opposite

in fact, lots of other temples also have there attractions, its all about money !
