BANGKOK: -- The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) today sought permission from the Criminal Court to detain former chairman of Credit Union Klongchan Cooperative for questioning in a case which he paid cheques valued 27 million baht to himself.

The DSI also requested the court to reject bail as the case involved many people and damages caused by his frauds are high.

The former chairman Supachai Srisuppa-aksorn was escorted to the court today along with his lawyer who planned to seek temporary on bail.

A number of members of the cooperative, mostly retired civil servants, also arrived at the court to hear charges that the DSI brought on him.

They shouted at their former chairman and also urged that the court rejected his bail.

According to the DSI, Supachai was found to issue eight cash cheques valued 27 million baht for himself, claiming the members that the money would be used to pay fees for the cooperative.

But he denied the DSI’s charge.

Supachai was also accused in another embezzlement case involving 13 billion baht. The case has been forwarded to the prosecutor and was pending court trial.

I wish this government to work in such a way that gives

no second chances to crooks like Supachai

but gives more chances to prosper to honest, decent people

including foreigners. Many would welcome the opportunity

to be able to open their own business starting from little.
