More commemorative banknotes to be issued to mark Princess Sirindhorn’s 60th birthday anniversary

BANGKOK: -- The Bank of Thailand announced yesterday that it will issue an additional 10 million 100-baht commemorative banknotes marking the auspicious occasion of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s fifth cycle birthday.
The new issuance was in addition to the first issuance of 10 million banknotes that allowed people to exchange on April 2.


As NNT reported, The central bank governor Mr Prasarn Trairatvorakul said the bank would issue 10 million additional commemorative 100-baht banknotes for the auspicious occasion of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s fifth cycle birthday, due to the high demand from the public.

The public can exchange existing bank notes for this new lot of commemorative banknotes at all branches of the Government Savings Bank, the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, the Government Housing Bank, and the Islamic Bank of Thailand from 27 April 2015.

He said the current lot of this commemorative banknotes issued on April 2 is still available for exchange until the stock runs out.

The central bank will conduct a survey on the supply of these commemorative banknotes, to ensure that the supply will meet public demand, he added.

Phuket tour bus overturns in Krabi

21 of the 33 passengers on board the bus were taken to hospital.

PHUKET: A tour bus from the Phuket Central Tour Company overturned on the Khaotor-Tub Pud Rd in Krabi’s Plai Phraya District this morning (April 4) leaving many passengers injured, two seriously.

More free train rides arranged for Songkran travellers

BANGKOK: -- The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) yesterday announced more free train rides for the people to travel to celebrate the upcoming Songkran festival next week.

Meanwhile the Transport Company also announced to increase more buses in all routes to cope with the influx of passengers travelling home and tourist destinations to celebrate the long water splashing festival that is set to begin mid next week.

The government has already announced a three day holiday for Songkran festival from April 13-15.

SRT governor Wuttichart Kalayanamit said that the SRT will increase 12 more trains daily from April 10-12, while additional 18 trains daily are set for April 15-19.

He said all the 30 trains which are free will handle the surge of passengers which can be as high as 120,000 passengers per day.

The SRT has, meanwhile, introduced safety measures to ensure passengers a safe, clean and alcohol free
rides throughout their journey.

Transport Company’s acting managing director Noppharat karunyavanich said the company will run 1,500 extra trips from 6,000 to 7,500 for both outbound service from April 9-12 and inbound service from April 13-16.

He said the extra trips will be able to cope with 200,000 holiday makers who are to travel during the festival.

He also suggested that Songkran travelers should arrive at Mo Chit Bus Terminal early to avoid traffic which is expected to be very heavy at the area due to the construction of the red-line railway.

NHRC Visits Terror Suspects Allegedly Tortured by Soldiers

Two Kuwaiti Nationals arrested in Koh Samui

KOH SAMUI: -- On Friday police in Koh Samui announced the arrest of Vezam Kamal Murad, 28 and Mohammad Yahya Murad, 37, from Kuwait. The men were in possession of two fake Turkish passports as well as stolen cash and goods including a 20,000 baht Rolex watch.

RC holds brain-storming session in Ubon Ratchathani

UBON RATCHATHANI, 4 April 2015 (NNT) – The National Reform Council (NRC) has launched a brain-storming session on several aspects of the country’s reform today.

The meeting, which is being held at Ubon Ratchathani Rajabhat University, reportedly attracted over a thousand representatives from different civil sectors across the province.

The discussion covers 18 issues aimed at solving deep-rooted problems including corruption, vote-buying and social inequality. Other than the national-level issues, the NRC members are expected to collect suggestions from the civil society representatives on the solution to local-level challenges.

The NRC expects to hold more than 100 large and small scale forums as part of the national reform process.

THAI Airways to increase service capacity for Songkran holidays

BANGKOK, 4 April 2015 (NNT) – THAI Airways will be increasing the airline's service capacity on important domestic routes to facilitate the increased demand during the Songkran holidays, says the THAI Airways President.

According to the President of THAI Airways International Plc Charamporn Jotikasthira, the carrier will increase flight frequency and upgrade the aircraft type in use during 9-20 April 2015, to increase the service capacity by providing 10,000 additional seats.

The service change will be applied for key domestic routes. Seven more flights were added to the Bangkok - Phuket round trip service. The type of aircraft in use for 14 Bangkok - Phuket flights, 16 Bangkok - Chiang Mai flights, and 2 Bangkok - Krabi flights will be upgraded to increase the seat capacity.

The national flag carrier will also celebrate the Songkran holidays and promote the Discover Thainess campaign by holding Thai cultural performances at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport. Thai decorations will also be on display at check-in counters and the staff to be wearing Thai folk costumes during 9-10 and 13-14 April 2015.

Thai Police highlights its success in supporting Gov't security policy
