Bangkok officials crack down on street beggars

webfact

Was in Brussels a couple of weeks ago.

Police and what appeared to be olive drab Army buses packed with mostly Gypsies. Quads of cops just going round the sidewalks and area near the EU HQs picking them up. I asked where they were being taken and was told "out of town."

The EU Mandarins don't like to see the fruits of their evil littering the streets and rail stations - so it's not just Bangkok.

Cracking down on these poor souls in just about their limit..........<deleted!> the criminals....get the penniless beggars!

They are cracking down on the human traffickers that deploy these people all over town every morining.

These traffickers go to Cambodia and recruit these pitiful disfigured people.

Every evening this gang retrieve these people and take their money.

No doubt they are illegal immigrants brought in with the help of unethical immigration officials.

These people are prisoners.

'Sampan Suwantab, deputy chief of the Social Development and Welfare Department, said the latest crackdown would reduce the plight of women and children, the main victims of human trafficking. He also affirmed the department would develop the potential of those homeless persons who were not the victims of human trafficking.'

How will it reduse the plight of women and children trafficked? Some of them would be begging to aviod being trafficked.

What potential will they develop to help the homeless?

Sampan statement does sound patronising to the plight of the beggars.

I know some of these people can make more money doing this job than regular day to day jobs. But to get them off the street you need to work with them to becoming more responsible.

Does anyone know if its true or just an urban myth that many of these street beggars are controlled or owned by gangs?

Of course it's a gang.

Like I said earlier, place a few beggers out there some moring and watch who comes along and chases them away.

Of course your story could be true. Or perhaps not.

Have you ever tried "placing" a few beggars there, and what was the result?

You think the BMA footpath police just allow the beggar gang and all those vendors selling porn just set up shop?cheesy.gif

Funny.

Like I said. Take one of those prime begging spots some morning and see how long you last out there? 20 minutes?

Fact is, there is a human trafficking gang that deploys these people and pick them up every day.

The BMA & Police are in on it.

Sad because some actual poor or hungry Thai isn't allowed to go on the street and collect a few coins for a meal.

This is a mega buck operation deploying 500 beggars and taking their collection.

The now vacant corners will be filled in no time with Thais.

The Thais better to be quick, I would have thought this suddenly vacant real estate would have been instantly filled with wandering farangs, they seem to be the ones craving for the space to move. Like the annual elk migration across the tundra.........................biggrin.png

I wish they would come to Silom to remove the beggars ! In my 10 years here I have never seen police patrolling the Silom sidewalks unless they are there for some special effort or to collect money. Where are all of the police hiding I wonder ?

They are out there in plain clothes running their scams.

Just wait till some cold January morning and you will see them wearing their Police jackets.

Seems they have a lot of business on Pat Pong....

Don't know about you but nothing upsets me more than seeing children being used to tug the heart strings of tourists all in the name of making money!Walk along Sukhumvit on any given night either side of any BTS steps and see a mother with a baby in her arms and a plastic cup...see the kids sheltering under the Nana BTS steps often with a puppy dog for maximum impact!Worse still what broke me up the other week was just up past Asok Interchange..3 kids playing under the footbridge there at 2.30am in the morning...all alone! These kids were no older than 3 years old with no obvious adult in sight..disturbing and upsetting and wonder if anyone else has noticed this of late?

Mother with a baby? Maybe. I think they rent them. "Hey, let me touture your kid for the next 12 hours breathing bus fumes...., I'll give you 50Bt"

The babies and puppy dogs are victims of these BMA officials & police greed.
