Army to provide public service points for Songkran holidays

BANGKOK, 7 April 2015 (NNT) – The Royal Thai Army will be setting up commuter service points along the major roads during the Songkran holidays to accommodate the public, says a spokesperson.

The Deputy Spokesperson of the Royal Thai Army Col Sirichan Ngathong has revealed that the army Commander-in-Chief Gen Udomdej Sitabutr has ordered military units nationwide to set up 243 public service points during 9-16 April 2015 to facilitate commuters and to help reduce road accidents.

She has said that the public service points will be set up along major roads in Thailand, such as Phahonyothin Road, Mittaphab Road, Phetkasem Road, and at famous tourist attractions. Road users can rest or report any emergency situation at the service points, which provide a 24-hour service.

The service points will also act as coordinator between government and private agencies in the area to provide aid and services such as vehicle inspection and explaining the route, as well as providing refreshments to the public.

The army Deputy Spokesperson has also mentioned that all hospitals under the supervision of the Royal Thai Army are prepared for emergency cases with staff and equipments ready for immediate operations. The army hospitals will work with the public health hospitals in the area along the festival period for an increased response capacity.

Regarding the preparedness for disaster mitigation, the army’s disaster relief center have prepared equipments, vehicles, aircrafts, and the technical operation units ready to immediately respond to help the public in any case of emergency.
