Navy Sources State That Buying Chinese Submarines is a Bad Idea

Finally, some common sense surfaces. Why purchase submarines from a country that Thailand may soon be having to counter in regard to its expansionist policies?

The best submarines on the market for Thailand are the Dolphin class built by Germany. The Israelis have been outfitted by Germany and these are some of the best in the world. I suppose, with the current antagonistic relations with Germany, such a purchase may not be possible.

Germany also has strict rules on dealing with military dictatorships and anti-bribery regulations. Maybe if and when there is a return to civilian rule...............

They discuss to buy from China, China has no expansionist policy......

Israel uses these submarines to equip them with nuclear warhead rockets.....

No expansionist policy?

Last I knew and read China has disputes with all it's neighbours in the South China Sea over the islands it covets.

The poor navy seals in pictures look like Boy Scouts. Maybe invest in some uniforms first.

$1000 baht says you wouldn't survive 2 minutes in a fight with those boy scouts...555

1 satang says he wouldn't have to. Almost all of the military casualties arising from the ongoing war in the south are attributable to:

- IEDs

- Ambushes of the hit and run variety

- Vehicle crashes

- Friendly fire

I'll raise you 1000 baht!! ?

If they really are as good as we would expect them to be, they'd be constantly achieving successful operations against the Southern insurgents and insurgency, it's always the Rangers which are more of a militia than regular special operations forces who go toe to toe with the bad guys.

Moonlighting for high profile characters seem more their thing these days or recent past days.

The RTN SEAL's have a pretty good reputation with their US counterparts, like the Philippine ones also.

Really, so how would you term China's recent military incursion in India? An exotic picnic?

How about China's expansionist activity in the South China Sea? Cruise time for the Han?

And what about China's full court press in Myanmar? A chance to visit the jungle and appreciate the trees before they are all cut down for the Chinese market?

psst...

Philippine president compares China's expansion to Nazi Germany - “At what point do you say, ‘Enough is enough?’ Well, the world has to say it. Remember that the Sudetenland was given in an attempt to appease Hitler to prevent World War II,” (telegraph.co.uk)

Whether Israel modifies its submarines to carry nuclear weapons is a different issue. Thailand doesn't need to modify its submarines to carry nukes.

The fact remains that Germany builds some excellent submarines. The Germans also have some of the world's finest human rights jurists and lately they have been having a grand old time with Thailand.

If China will buy something from Thailand, its smart enough to ask Thailand to buy something back...submarines or anything. China is not stupid to import cars, computers, oil, food, etc, etc, etc...to increase its debts and damage its own industry and employment numbers like many Western countries do. Give and take rules are fundamental for any country's economy to survive and grow, and the grow of BRIC's countries is based on that.

Indonesia is looking in getting into the BRIC market..and it is in its way.....Why not Thailand?

Please tell me where BRIC is headquartered and who you email to join?

These are all old border disputes, like many countries have. Japan has with Russia, Thailand has with Cambodia, India with Pakistan, etc etc

Germany and finest human rights? They sell weapons to Israel and Saudi Arabia.....two hubs of human rights.....

This is the deal of the YEAR.

The Junta gets a couple subs and trades off all the remaining alleged low-quality pledged rice gathered by the Yingluck regime now sitting in government-hired warehouses. Of course, the subs will be in the same condition as the rice.

Thailand doesn't have any sub facilities and its waters have limited depths for use. Maybe the subs could be resold for use in commercial enterprises like human trafficking, ivory smuggling, drugs, etc. But it's the show of Thai military cooperation with an opponent of the democratic Western-Asian-Pacific nations that is the real message that the Junta can send. .

China buys way more rice than Europe. Also they are used to the backhand culture needed to secure

the contract. European companies are under the accounting microscope. Backhanders are much

more difficult. Of course the front line wants the best equipment, the guys that make the purchase

agreement want the biggest backhanders. coffee1.gif

Why are they lined up like that in the photo? Is it a practice how to shoot their mates in the ass?

Once again, PARADE drill.

Please read well the report THKS

Parading, so that's what they do all day.

My partner was nawigayothin = marien. out of the best ones they select the seals.

And YES there are many parades for any occasion. They even have the same granduniform then the US mariens on the sunset parade (google to see it) in Sathahip.

Do not forget that the Thai marins are fully based on the US marins and train a lot toghter.

Buying submarines is a bad idea period. All that complaining by tax payers about rice subsidies seems a little redundant now. Tax money is always wasted but at least the rice subsidies went straight back into the Thai economy

hahahahahahaha back into the thai economy ...of course you know this for sure

We don't need submarines.

If Thailand needs to buy something from China, buy trains to replace old stock, or electric ones for new the Mass Transit lines.

Let the Generals get their submarine commissions from these train deals - at least the trains would be useful to the public.

Singapore bought 4 used subs from Sweden in the late nineties. These were then refurbished and fitted to suit the tropical environment. Excellent compact size and specs. And they just retired two last month. This is an excellent opportunity for Thailand to get two subs with a track record in the region at an affordable price from a friendly nation.

What is Thailand going to do with submarines anyway? Sneak up on illegal fishing boats maybe?

Big Boys must have their toys. Even though we grow up to be men we still retain a lot of childhood memories like playing with toy submarines in the bathtub. Stuff made in China are the same quality as the original Japanese wristwatch. Youse pays youse money youse takes youse chances. I am sure you can get a "fire sale" price from the Chinese on these noisy old diesel clunkers. If you sign that rail contract they want they may even throw a couple in for nothing. Saves them scrapping them.

A spokesman man for the Chinese submarine manufacturers said " We are outraged and offended by the spurious comments being made regarding the quality of our vessels. In fact glug, glug, glug"

Maybe you should check out that anti-bribery regulation, remember a big brown envelope, full of $$$$ given to a Canadian Prime minister
