Creative Thai cooking classes as part of the 2015 Discover Thainess campaign

BANGKOK: -- The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is pleased to lend its support to promote new Thai culinary experiences organised by Concept Cooking and Craft as well as the Food Communication Association.

Concept Cooking and Craft offers a great chance for travellers to learn how to cook like a Thai chef through a variety of gastronomical courses. Participants can choose from a short course; such as, ‘The Wellness Kitchen’ course, which is a half-day culinary class combined with a spa treatment, swimming pool access and/or sauna at the Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel, or a full day ‘Meal @ Farm’ course to the “The Hidden Valley of Thai Herbs” in Bang Khae, Bangkok in order to explore the origin of Thai ingredients along the “route of salt and coconut” of the Samut Songkram and Samut Sakhon area.

Mrs. Juthaporn Rerngronasa, Acting TAT Governor and TAT’s Deputy Governor for International Marketing (Europe, Africa, Middle East and America) said, “These Thai culinary programmes in which visitors can learn some of the secrets of Thai cooking are in the spirit of our 2015 Discover Thainess tourism campaign, which emphasises and promotes at least seven unique elements of Thai culture, one of which is our amazing national cuisine.”

Thai food is inseparable from Thai culture as a whole, and this is reflected in the way that food is a major topic of Thai conversation. Favourite Thai dishes are always at the heart of festivals, celebrations and family occasions. To cater to visitors who want to learn how to make Thai dishes, classes are opening all over Thailand where people can learn cooking techniques, preparation skills and how to choose ingredients, so that they can take home the tastes of Thailand.

This is a good idea for TAT, but they should strip away the nonsense. There's enough interest in the culinary arts now to offer hard-core cooking classes and demonstrations. They should partner with some hotels and chefs to arrange package deals. China does it.

The only problem is, unless it is organic vegetables. Thai vegetables have high levels of pesticide, Co of Monsanto!
