Expiring Non-Imm O , need to extend, suggestions please!

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I am thoroughly confused once again by the rules regarding Visas and extensions and Visa exempt entries and such!

My plight....I have been in Bangkok on a Non-Imm O Visa extension as a parent of a child/minor (my son) attending (International) school here.

My extension will expire this Friday, April 17th.

My son's Visa will be extended until August by his school.

I will not meet the requirement for the extension as I will not have the 500,000 baht in my Thai bank account for the three months prior. (will spare reasons/details why as not pertinent)

I need to somehow buy more time to continue my stay in Thailand until August or thereabouts.

I have a re-entry permit in my passport never used (and likely remain that way). I have an airline ticket, FC on CX to Hong Kong for the last weekend in May returning 3 days later. That is all.

Has anyone got any suggestions as to the best, easiest and most economical way to continue my stay another 4 months?

Thank you all in advance for your time and suggestions (and a big thanks to Thai Visa for this forum/website it has helped me on numerous occasions over the years)!

*Edit- I might add I am from a G7 country and should be able to get visa exempt entry???? (Is there a minimum time I would have to leave the country???)

You could make a border run on the 17th and cross into another country and return getting a 15 day visa exempt entry unless you are from a G7 country which allow you to get a 30 day entry.

You could then get a 30 day extension of that entry at immigration for a fee of 1900 baht.

You could then apply for a single entry tourist visa at the consulate in Hong Kong while you are there. A tourist visa would give you a 60 day entry that can be extended for 30 days. You could also apply for a single entry non-o visa using copies your child's passport photo page extension stamp and their birth certificate.

Post promoting illegal activities removed.

Thanks (again) ubonjoe. So no troubles these days just driving to PoiPet, cross and come back? Are there any ramifications if I leave before the extension expiry date? With the re-entry permit, will they consider it a re-entry on that Visa and make me leave on the final day?

In Hong Kong I think it would have to be a tourist visa, unless things have changed? In the past I was denied the Non-O , being the father, they will only give it to the mother for some strange reason?

After a 30-day extension of a visa exempt entry, you must leave for a minimum of how many days before being able to return on another visa exempt entry? Is that something that is left up to the immigration official on the day? His opinion?

Once again, thank you and Happy Songkran!

Since you are not already on an exempt entry you can do one without a problem.

Being so close to the date your extension extension and re-entry permit expires they would ask you if you waned to use the re-entry permit or get the 15 days.

If it was me I think I would go to the Ban Laem crossing instead of Poi Pet. It is little further from Bangkok but it will be a lot quicker getting across the border and back because it is not near as busy as Poi Pet is.

It could be problem getting another exempt entry at a border crossing after the extension.

If you mean getting one after you go to Hong Kong it would not be a problem.

If the visa exempt entry and extension does not give you enough time you could apply for a 7 day extension. You could do it now instead of doing the border crossing first.
