PATTAYA: -- Tragedy struck a family living at the Viewpoint Village in Jomtien on Thursday afternoon following the drowning of a 2 year old Thai-Norwegian boy.

Rescue Services were quickly on-scene but were unable to revive Master Matthius whose Mother and 3 year old Brother looked-on in disbelief.

The victim’s Mother told Police that she had gone to sleep on her bed with her two sons, who appear to have awoken leaving their Mother still sleeping on the bed.

Some people have no concept of pool safety. Tragic.

So very sad.

Parents should take extreme care!

A little unfair I think.

A gate to the pool had been left open.

I feel for the parents. I don't think there could be anything worse than seeing your child die.

Absolutely tragic. To loose a young one in this way will stay with her for the rest of her life.

...gate or no gate....

...what do you call it when a mother of a 2-year old and a 3-year old goes to sleep in the vicinity of a swimming pool...

..sorry but.... it does not begin with the letter 'A'.....

Tragedy that could have been easily avoided, so sad.

You are right, she should have been more careful but in all probability she forgot to check it. Easily done if you are tired or have many things to take care of. A bit harsh to be critical of her, she will probably suffer for many years to come. Very sad.

My sister worked at a pre-school for many years after she left nursing, and she said it never ceased to amaze her how quickly things could go south with small kids around water. Had two kids of her own, basically raised my brother and sister when we were kids, backyard swimming pool, but she rarely expressed surprise when the media ran a story about a child drowning.

RIP.
