Samsung hands-free into a computer setup ?

Featured Replies

hi there

I am in front of the computer with Skype, standalone mic and speakers for hands-free discussion. sometimes I have hands-free discussion on my Samsung smartphone too, but the audio pickup and speaker quality is not clear.

can I integrate the Samsung smartphone into the computer setup for better hands-free discussion ?

thanks and cheers

You can Bluetooth Link the smartphone and the computer, then use the computer to control the audio.

If you use the phone or computer quite often for voice or video you might think about a Bluetooth headset or earpiece (as it will work with both).

thanks RichCor

after BT linking the Samsung to the computer, where should I find the control ? or how should I pass a call to the computer mic and speaker ?

would BT 3.0 able to manage it ?

cheers

Depending on that Bluetooth protocols your smartphone and computer support,

usually just open the Bluetooth settings icon in the "System Tray" on your COMPUTER

select "Show Bluetooth devices"

double-click the linked smartphone

Use "Connect" on "Handset and Speakerphone" option

When you use the phone, the Audio (Mic/Speaker) should now originate from the computer

(note: some apps may not allow audio redirection)

your display choices may vary

MANY THANKS, RichCor, that is exactly what I need !

my screen definitely looks different from yours :-( I saw the BT paired Samsung, double click and nothing happens, not even a dialogue box nor error prompt.

mine is an on-board ASUS Bluetooth version 3.0. I have a Buffalo BT dongle 3.0+EDR, first find it and get it a trial !

Some Interfaces require using helper interfaces that might be in

START MENU - ALL PROGRAMS - BLUETOOTH DEVICES (folder)

Other interfaces are directly available via the "B" Bluetooth logo in the System Tray with LEFT-CLICK or RIGHT-CLICK or the menu options.

hmm . . . no luck :-( the Buffalo BT not working, the ASUS on-board BT only has the 'SMS Messaging Service', nothing else.

this is exactly the direction to the solution, but just my setup is outdated.

thanks anyway

It may be that you don't have the full Bluetooth DRIVERS loaded (but just the basic ones included with Windows).

Visit the company website of the PC, Laptop, or Custom-build Motherboard you own and look for support drivers for that specific model number. You should find a Bluetooth driver download in the list. Once installed, you should have access to more features.

yeah, already done this, and updated to the latest Oct 2014 driver from the BT supplier. but the original driver infact only supports certain functions, not including the hands-free.

Onboard Bluetooth wireless design enables smart connectivity to Bluetooth devices with no additional adapter. ASUS BT GO! comes with 7 special functions that offer a significant breakthrough in Bluetooth evolution, including Folder Sync, BT Transfer, BT Turbo Remote, BT-to-Net, Music Player, Shot and Send, and Personal Manager. All are accessible through the exclusive, user-friendly ASUS interface.

next possibility, testing foreign BT drivers, or even any 'wired' solution too.

They "sell" bluetooth hands-free car speaker (the ones that clip above your visor) like the Motorola Roadster Pro or SonicRider that have the necessary technology to work as a speakerphone/conference device (electronics that keep the speakers from feeding back into the mic an causing howling).

Alternatively, you can find a Bluetooth headset with a boom mic that gives long talk time and great audio.

There are also 'wired' systems that do similar. But since bluetooth came out they're not as popular or as easy to find.

DONE, it is just a 500 baht solution - installed an Orico Bluetooth USB dongle !

been paired the Samsung with 3 different computers with built-in Bluetooth, they only provide the standard protocol but no hands-free profile.

the Orico Bluetooth comes with plenty of profiles, including the hands-free profile. yet the sound quality is so so, with heavy echo on the remote end. now try to adjust it.

thanks RichCor

Call Sound quality will be dependent on

codec (Compression/Decompression) and bandwidth granted by the mobile operator of the originating mobile call

codec and bandwwidth used by the bluetooth connecting service (mobile and orinco)

intermediary computer software controlling the sound devices

Ability of the 'system (computer, bluetooth software, or phone software) to implement speakerphone feedback suppression*

*normally bluetooth doesn't implement feedback suppression.

Still, the other alternative is to look for a portable in-car bluetooth speakerphone (see post#10) as they're pretty loud and work well as a hands-free speakerphone (feedback suppression) and don't require any other devices or interfaces to work.
