Thais can't make pizza! (In my experience)

Recommended Posts

Unless you go to a proper pizzeria of course. Every time I order from a restaurant it is like they slice the pizza bread before they put the toppings on hence taking a slice for all the toppings to slide off leaving you with nothing but bread and tomato sauce. Anyone else fortunate like me? god damn it!

This is a fine example of what I'm talking aboutenhanced-buzz-17778-1381958647-20.jpg

I only order pizza from a pizzeria or a pizza shop. If you order pizza from a restaurant that makes all types of food, including pizza, then you are going to be disappointed most likely. If you want pizza, go to a pizzaria where it's their specialty.

Ayutthaya11, I'm guessing you wrote this post out of being frustrated with your own choice of restaurant: "Why on earth did I pick this joint when I knew the pizza was going to be a huge disappointment?" Or something along those lines. facepalm.gif

I guess it's the same disappointment people have ordering Thai food outside of Thailand...

I might add that I do like pizza myself, and have had both excellent as well as horrible pizza regardless where: Italy(!), Thailand, Switzerland, UK, States, everywhere, really.

Dominos have had a store in Pattaya for a while.

Not tried it...learnt to make my own in the way I like many years ago. Easy!

I rarely buy pizza out anymore but would only consider it at a place that specialises in it. Just like I never buy an English breakfast at a thai restaurant. Or overpriced Thai food at an English restaurant.

OP is female, from look of fingernails, and has a collection of Star Wars figurines? PM me you sexy nerd. Oh wait what were we talking about... pizza, oh yeah... uhm...

Try the Food Loft at Central, 70thb a slice.

Scoozi has hand tossed and oven-baked pizza.

Domino's is a bit expensive for their quality.

Pizza Company just tosses in local garbage and calls it Pizza.

Pizza Hutt is barely surviving.

Best to go to a restaurant that specializes in Pizza.

Signed, Pizza the Hutt

Americans can't make pizza either!

And at 'Italian' restaurants in Thailand where they actually do make a good pizza you need to bring your microscope to locate the ordered extras like anchovies, artichoke, capers or tuna, really you can't find it even you are gonna pay for it they are too fkcn greedy.

Worst post of the year !!!

More Italian families and pizza outlets in new york and chicago than in the rest of the known world.

(outside Italy, of course). All the cities in towns in my area are named for Italian ones.

Syracuse and Rome are where I grew up. My high school was 90 percent italian.

Amerigo Vespucci would slap ya.

Where I grew up...you only hear Italian...and pizzas, as you know them, were perfected there.

lol, After a general piss up of a day I tend to crave pizza, fried chicken or Indian food wherever in the world

I guess he is referring to the two week tourist....who should indeed try local foods.

For the rest of us, who may well be buried here, we do miss western food...and it's very comforting to eat something you missed.

Actually a 2 - 3 times per year 1 month tourist. I love Thai food but I'm a westerner brought up on western food. You bring a Thai to a western country do you think they will miss Thai food? I'm pretty sure they would considering they would rather eat noodles opposed to going to the New York steak house in bkk

We make fantastic pizza you goof. Our chains are gross but mom and pop pizzerias are delicious.

In Bangkok, Scoozi makes a decent pie.

Any other BKK Italian recommendations?

Remember when you first heard about pizza as a kid, from a luckier kid?

That's my story. Good Pizza is hard to find. In Thailand the cheese is sub-par.

I visit Thailand 3-4 months a year, and bring a few kilos of quality aged cheddar along for the ride from the U.S. (I'm in Canada, but near the border, and they have better cheddar cheese in Washinton State), half for a Phuket expat

He drools

Everybody it seems to have their own perception of what is the perfect pizza . It has been a long time simce i have had a pizza i would suggest as being wonderful and my tastes in pizza have changed from an overloaded thick crusted pizza since a friend of mine who grew up in Napples introduced me to thin crusted and very basic pizza. Cannot seem to find them around as i think people think they are getting robbed if it is not overflowing with toppings. I have also had some horrible"gourmet" pizzas too .

That is the best pizza I've eaten ANYWHERE. Was 15 years ago too. Posted that here once before. The secret, as always, is his wood fired oven.

It's not that I don't empathize with the bewilderment that folks have with the odd imitations of western food, but I also can't help but think how silly it would be for a Thai person to go to Chicago and frequent Thai restaurants while claiming, "They just don't get how to make som tam in Chicago. And their imitation of phat thai is bizarre."

I tolerate the pizza company pizza but that's all.Um Pizza Hut in Thailand shouldn't be called Pizza Hut.I'm hearing Dominos is coming to Thailand.

I'm really hoping they won't change. But I'm not holding my breath.

Yes, the pizza served in the so-called pizzerias, even those with operations in the US or Europe, are pretty bad. You can do better (but not great) doing your own from scratch at home.

There's one place in the lower level food court at Central Festival Pattaya that serves decent pizza slices, but only in comparison to the crap sold elsewhere.

One problem is the "sausage" topping used most places. It's more like sliced hot dogs. And the cheese ... ugh.

I found it was pretty easy to get great pad Thai at U.S. restaurants catering to Thais.. Never had decent som tam there but I assume it exists too but harder to find.

I've had some decent pizza in Thailand as well.

There are a number of places that are more than OK.

One I enjoyed recently was the wood fire oven place on Pattaya Klang between 2nd and Beach. The calzone was excellent. Couldn't expect better anywhere.
