US Court clears Thai shrimp industry of market-dumping

BANGKOK, 26 April 2015 (NNT) – The Office of Commercial Affairs of the Royal Thai Embassy in the US has reported that the United States Court of International Trade has acquitted Thailand of market dumping.

According to the Office of Commercial Affairs, the United States Court of International Trade has dismissed the appeal filed by the Coalition of Gulf Shrimp Industries (COGSI), accusing Thailand and six other shrimp-exporting countries of violating the anti dumping rules and demanded that further counter-dumping duties be levied on the accused.

According to the judges, the investigation into the charge of damage to the US shrimp industry found no linkage to the seven shrimp exporting countries. Vietnam, China, Ecuador, India, Malaysia and Indonesia are among the countries facing the same allegation.

The court’s ruling has saved Thailand, China, Vietnam, India, and Brazil from having to pay more countervailing duties. It will also enable Thailand to increase its shrimp export to the US.

At last.....some good news about Thailand, coming inthumbsup.gif

No more toys to be thrown out of our PM's pram, after hearing the news.

You see when system is free from corruption all get treated fairly no matter who you are.

I can see where it would be difficult for the US shrimpers to compete with these countries that farm shrimp with the cheapest most environmentally destructive methods on earth, all with very little, to no regulation. Not to mention forced, child and slave labor from some of these countries.

Of course this isnt the argument shrimpers presented in the suit. Maybe it should have been.

"It will also enable Thailand to increase its shrimp export to the US."

It never stopped Thailand from exporting shrimp to the USA. The issue was whether additional tarrifs should have been imposed for what was alleged as dumping. Since the court ruled there was no dumping, the amoun t of imports would remain the same. If it were increase, that might better raise the issue of dumping.

The bigger issue is whether the US will place restrictions or a ban on Thai shrimp imports because of its Tier 3 listing.
