Police Report - Retirement permit

Featured Replies

Just a quick question.

I posted a while ago re my options regarding late funding of my retirement extension. One of the options was to return to the UK to re-establish my Non-O and return to Thailand for the retirement process. This would give me up to 15 months and would be less hassle than the 60/90 day route.

Returning to the U.K. is not a problem as I would like go back for a few weeks anyway for family reasons. Clearly I can obtain a new Non-O from the Thai Embassy in London and get a medical cert. but I was wondering about the requirement of a police report. Obviously as I have not been resident of the U.K. for 9 years U.K. police will not give me a report. Will Thai Immigration require a report from the Thai police covering my time here? Does anyone have experience of this?

Thanks

Incidentally, I say that clearly I can get a new Non-O from the Thai Embassy, but is the fact that I have been resident in Thailand and don't have a permanent U.K address a potential problem?

That should not be a problem.

If you get a single non-O (which you can also get in a neighbouring country) from a Thai consulate, you do not need a police report and medical certificate. That is only needed when applying for an O-A visa, but not for an non-O visa.

Will he even be able to apply for a Non O in London? I thought they just did O-A's.

But, if he's aged between 50 and 65 (the age at which men become eligible for the UK State Pension for those not in the know), he'll only be able to obtain an OA visa from the Royal Thai Embassy in London. For the police report needed for this particular visa type he'll need to submit a subject access disclosure request to the police force serving the area where he lived in the UK prior to moving out to Thailand, regardless of how long ago that was - see https://www.acro.police.uk/subject_access.aspx

However, if it's another non-O visa he's after, he'll need to apply in person at one of the UK honorary consulates at Birmingham, Cardiff, Liverpool, Hull and Glasgow. But he should be aware that Hull have now tightened up their procedures somewhat after being deemed by the London Embassy to be naughty boys for issuing visas in circumstances which they shouldn't have!
