Hi there, I'm planning a trip to Cambodia and planning to take my car there.

For myself I'm going to apply for an online visa but not very clear what to do regarding a car.

The car is on finance and will be paid off in about 6 months, I don't have the blue book on hands, only the copy.

Do I have to have an original book to take the car there or a copy would work?

What are the boarder procedures regarding a car when taking it across?

I'm living Pattaya for almost 10 years, married with a Thai lady. Two months ago i went to ask if (and how) i could go to Cambodia with my own car matriculated in Thailand. No problem :). With the ASEAN we can drive any car from any country of ASEAN in any country member of the ASEAN was the answer i got. Arrived at the boarder, it was an other language. I have to go by taxi or eventually to rent a car in Cambodia. After many discussion i could go to the ... casino (sic) near the boarder but i can't go out of the Province.

I eared now that, from the 15 of April 2015 the ASEAN is full in force and there is no more problems to go in Cambodia with a Thai car by a boarder, visit Siam Reap and playing 2 or 3 rounds of golf after continue to Phnom Penh and Shianoukville and come back by the boarder near TRAT.

If someone can help me about that, i'll be very grateful.

Thank's in advance

Well we called the finance company and they said we can't take the car or of the country unless we pay it off. I previously heard a different story like they allow to take the car out after you have been paying for at least 6 months, sometimes a little longer, but in my case I've been paying for 4 and a half years!

It looks like the answer may depend on an agent you talk to. Regardless, when I asked how long to get a book if I decided to pay it off, which I could, they said it would be a few weeks, which is a little too late. Decided to travel by bus again this time.

There may be more that I'm not aware about traveling to Cambodia by car, the blue book is just part of the equation.

If someone knows more about what else may be required to take a car out, please share.

Took my car to siem reip last year as many others have. You need to blue book to cross the border.

Don't think anything has changed, ASEAN community or not. These things are handled on a bilateral basis.

AND ASEAN does not go into effect until December at the earliest.
