Work permit process?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

First time posting here, apologies if the question has already been answered previously.

I am currently in Thailand on a 3 month tourist visa, I am Australian.

I have been offered employment which I wish to accept and also the option to buy into the business in the near future if I wish.

Obviously the first thing I need is a work permit?

I have had a suggestion put to me about applying for a non-b visa as I will be kind of in the "interim" of buying into the business, is there any logic in that idea?

Is the work permit process lengthy, will I be able to get it done within 3 months?

Many thnx for any advice given guys.

Regards,

I am sure you know what you are doing but many would suggest seeking independent legal advise before buying into a business

Yes I will seek out that advice when the time comes, thnx for the heads up.

Better do your homework......you know nothing about a process that can be either long and drawn out or impossible not to mention expensive if you approach the wrong company or lawyer........

Perhaps he was severely "burnt" in a business "deal" and now expresses outrage in the form of hostility to others.

You will know much more about the business if they can be successful in getting you a work permit.

If they can't manage that in a timely manner, move on.

Edit - my work permit took 3 days to process. My first annual extension of stay took 20 minutes.

If you need to work in Thailand, then the Work Permit is a pre-requisite.

Apply at almost all Thai Consular Facilities in SE Asia and you will need a successfully filed Work Permit application and Letter of Approval from Labour before you can obtain a 90 day single entry non-immigrant category 'B' visa and only when you present your passport with the valid non 'b' 90 day entry stamp on your return to Thailand will the WP be physically issued to you.

So WP and Non 'B' are inter related and you can't have one without the other.

Get caught working in Thailand with a WP and you risk detention, fine, imprisonment then deportation.

Here are the required documents for a non immigrant 'B' visa application.

Excellent, exactly the information I was after guys thankyou very much :)

No way I'd even think of working in Thailand. Especially if I had a WP, the penalties are just too severe.

I don't even want to think about what they'd do to you if they discovered you had a valid extension of stay too. blink.png

No hostility. Just a warning. Hate to see people get railroaded.

If you get caught making a typographic error on Thai Visa Forum then the shame might be unbearable rolleyes.gif

BTW - I work for people who could get a work permit for a corpse. I almost feel sorry for the 3 people who I was moved in front of at immigration to process my extension of stay :P)

Step 1: Apply for your work permit. At most offices of the Department of Emplyment (DOE), this can be done while you are in Thailand on your tourist visa.

Step 2: When the work permit is ready to picked up or before the expiration of your current permission to stay, whichever occurs earlier, go to a Thai consulate to get a single-entry non-B visa and return to Thailand.

Step 3: Pick up your work permit and start working.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place
