May 5, 201511 yr Hi. Have double sliding aluminium front doors at the moment that are pretty clapped out and I want to replace these with double wooden doors. I will mount the timber doors in the existing aluminium frame after removing the sliding doors. I will have an opening of around 1800mm wide and 2 doors at 810mm each will leave a gap of about 180mm or so. No probs can pack this out with timber etc but was wondering if it would be a better idea to have a timber post in the middle of the 2 doors and the doors would jam against that or should I have the 2 doors shut together against each other? Any help appreciated
May 5, 201511 yr I doubt the aluminium frame will be strong enough to support hinged wooden doors (heavy), better to get your local chippie to make a pukka wooden frame to replace the aluminium jobbie. You should be able to get custom doors made to fit the space available. Double doors normally close against each other with a weather strip closing the gap between them. "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

This is the kind of thing that you have to screw up a couple of times before you can feel confident of doing yourself.
May 9, 201511 yr I agree rip the aluminum frame out. Use the timber fill on one side to narrow the opening and act as the door jam on that side, and put a regular jam on the other side and top. This way you can recycle the doors that you already have.
