TAT holds a roadshow in Dubai

DUBAI, 5 May 2015, (NNT) - Deputy Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT)’s Europe, Africa, Middle East and America Market Juthaporn Riengrona-asa has revealed that TAT officials and 59 travel agencies are attending Arabian Travel Market 2015 from May 4 - 7 in Dubai.

The move is expected to attract more tourists to Thailand during the Kingdom’s Green Season.

She indicated that last year the number of tourists from the Middle East stood at 593,000, a drop of 5.91 percent. Ms. Juthaporn attributed the decrease to a fall in fuel price since 2008, which diminished gross domestic product of Egypt, Lebanon, and Syria.

Nonetheless, she said that tourism in the region started to revive in the latter half of 2014, particularly in August, the period before Ramadan. Ms. Juthaporn expected the number of tourists from the Middle East would increase in the holiday season at the end of the year, saying that popular destinations include Dubai, Istanbul, EU nations, and Thailand.

Ms. Juthaporn said records showed an increase in the number of tourists interested in Medical Tourism in Thailand. She added that medical tourists from Qatar rose due to increased Qatar Airways flights from Bangkok to Doha.

Beware what you wish for!

Presumably a dig at Emiratis, but about 89% of the population in the UAE is made up of expats and amongst them a large percentage who are likely to be thinking of traveling for holidays are farang.

I used to travel from Dubai to Bangkok at least three times a year and most of those on the flights were farang.

Be careful what ill-informed assumptions you make.

fall in fuel prices for 7 years is the cause?

I think you might be surprised on how little effect that has had on the disposable income of people working in the UAE,

Remember it's a tax free life - no income tax, VAT etc. Things are expensive there by comparison but salaries good. Lot's of people over there look East for their holidays.

One can only hope no TAT official accidentally mention in Dubai what happens to their Muslim brothers (Thai, Rohingya, Bangladeshi) in the south...

Arabs don't really care in all those Emirates. They are cheap labour and that's all.

Cue the Thaksin- jokes...coffee1.gif

Did a certain gentleman take a brochure showing pristine beaches, in the Philippines, and with a tear in the eye assure he will visit ? Just waiting for a certain time restriction to expire.

Do you think their sense of muslim brotherhood will over-ride the inherent racism of god/Allah's chosen?
