Working on own condo.

Featured Replies

I understand that a farang can't even do unpaid work in thailand. Question is, can I do maintenance and renovations on my own condo without getting into trouble?

This was asked in our "Ask the Lawyer" section recently http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/822272-legallities-of-performing-work-in-your-own-home-on-a-oa-retirement-visa/

You're ok, actually I would say you're ok so long as you don't start heavy construction work, painting, tiling etc. no issue.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

thank god for that crossy, i laid half the blocks on our home,,lol

Lock the door and do what you want, or no?

Now that's a whole different activity.

I would say that you are OK as long as no one complains.

Thai law is sufficiently vague as to make almost any mental or physical activity that isnt life-sustaining potentially illegal.

And this was my initial concern. The fluidity of Thai law seems to be subjective at the least, if not applied with nepotism, graft and as I sometimes suspect, xenophobia. As much as I love being in Thailand, many a time I feel like I'm here walking a tight rope. Maybe this is part of the attraction.

i intend to build my own house, I ahve decorated shops before with no problems, Bu ti have never been paid, just helping My than friends.

i built two houses on my land and then laid miles of water pipe all by myself, police come round a couple of times a week and have some oishi and pappayas etc..........i do have their red box though.

Never had anyone say anything. been here for 9 years
