+ sign before country code - 'number unavailable'

I've tried to call a Call Center using the code 0044 for the UK. An internet search threw up this advice if your cell doesn't have a + sign. I keep getting the 'mai mee mai lek' - number unavailable, and then it dies. I've had this with other Call Centers in the UK in the past. No problem using it to call friends et al.

What's up? Thanks.

Try holding down the "0" for a second or so, it'll produce your '+' sign.

Alternatively, you can use '001' for international access. So in your case 001-44-<etc>

I believe using a '+' sign in Thailand defaults the "international call bearer" to the current mobile operator network. ( same as 001 44 for dialing UK).

If you don't want or can't use the '+' sign then you need to specify the "international call bearer" by dialing their prefix. (ie: 004 0044 or 004 44 to use dtac as your network call bearer).

Fixed-line and Mobile customers can select an international call carrier by using special prefix dialing codes from within Thailand to receive special calling rates.

RichCor, post #3 says it all.

I always use 009 prefix (to (Germany). Cheap and acceptable speech quality.

To reach a London number you would dial:

009 44 20 ....

Harrods tongue.png :

009 44 20 7730 1234

009 rates to UK: Fixed : 5 Baht, Mobile : 7 Baht

If you use "+" (= 001) then the rate to UK is 14 Baht
