Visa run to Laos

VISA run to Laos and run ..

Hi all...

I have been wanting to visit Laos for some time and am thinking of a visa run ..

Ubon ratchatahani to pakse

Or chia get mai into Vientiane .

As I really want to visit ubon also for some time this my first option..

But, which is the best visa run and out of pakse and Vientiane which is the best place to visit please..

And how much are the crossing fees into Laos the visa at the border

Thank you.

There are only two Thai consulates in Laos: Vientiane and Savanakhet. The last one would be better for a visit to Ubon.

Is it realised that by leaving the country the 60 day tourist visa will be invalidated and however many days are left will e lost ?

That is a border run, not a visa run.

You do know you can extend your tourist visa with 30 days for 1,900 baht? (But be careful to make the second entry before the visa itself expires).

I have been through the Pakse border and from what I saw I think it would be problematic transport wise for someone on their own.

I went on a bus tour from BKK which was ok. There is not a lot to see in Pakse, they took us to waterfalls, temples etc, all some distance from Pakse.

The other option would be to take the train to Ubon and take short tour from there.

Visa fee into Laos is subject to nationality, for Brits it is 35 USD.

Thank you for replying much help ..

Yes I do u see stand the extra 30 days but I want to travel and my 2nd visa then wud take me to sept with the extra 30 days but I plan to,return end August ..

My husband has been over here longer and has a few entries .. And is thinking he needs to be out of the country for a few days ..

His first entry was April last year then extended stays to sept .. Then UK back here in a week.. Back,to UK nov.. Return here dec..

Then back here UK feb Return March after 3 weeks and he has just done Extra 30 days ..

I think all in all he has only had two 30 day extensions ..

He did need a long term stay but did not have the funds .l so back and forth which the UK visits were needed anyway ..

I do not know if they are still fussy about any continued tourist visa he did have three ..

Thank you..

Fuss is about too many visa exempt entries, not about tourist visas.

Hello!

I've been to Vientiane and Pakse both, and I'd think it much more fun

to stay in Vientiane than in Pakse, where there's not much to be seen.

As for how to get to Pakse from Ubon, at Ubon Bus Terminal you can

catch an international bus through to Pakse, or a minivan to 'Chong Mek'

at the border on the Thai side (more frequent) and then hop on a mini-van

at 'Vang Tao' on the Lao side to Pakse.

At Ubon Railway Station, you can walk 10mins to the market where you

can take a local bus to 'Phibun' and then change for Chong Mek. I've

seen an air-con bus running between Bangkok and Chong Mek, too.

There aren't so many places to stay in Pakse so you might find it hard to

find one when you get there late so you should make a booking before

going there.

Good luck.
