The Disabled People Council of Thailand seeks to lift rules limiting rights of the disabled

The Disabled People Council of Thailand will petition the Constitution Court to invalidate all rules, regulations and provisions in the laws that limit the rights of the disabled.

Wiriya Namsiripongpan (วิริยะ นามศิริพงษ์พันธ์), chairman of the panel drafting a plan on the development of the quality of life of disabled people, said certain laws bar the blind seeking certain kinds of medical treatment and prohibit hiring of handicapped people and the disabled to run for certain political posts.

Mr. Wiriya said the council will ask the Constitution Court to lift those restrictions.

He said the plan he is drafting requires government offices, shopping centers and public places to have facilities for disabled people.
