Non O Spousal visa renewal -- is it really that simple?

Recommended Posts

Sorry, this has been probably been covered here multiple times but a search didn't bring up much.

I bolded the section that applies to me -- supporting Thai wife. I must be reading this wrong as it's hard to believe that it's really this simple now. It doesn't even mention any financial documents. For my renewal last year I did a full re-application.

The above list of documents required for extension is ok but the financials from your bank have to be there for the visa extension and the process is straight forward as before. The information that you have uploaded has missed out on the financial document requirement, surely.

Get the financial document and you are all set for a one year extension, without any hassles. Mind you, the money has to be in the bank two months previous to your application.

The list is incomplete.

If you work in Thailand you also submit the documents right below there. If you have an income from outside Thailand on which you qualify you submit a letter from your embassy confirming your income. If you qualify based on money in the bank in Thailand you submit your updated bankbook plus bank letter.

Besides that you often submit a copy of your bankbook to show some cash flow, you also provide some pictures of you and your wife together inside and outside the house (with house number visible) and a map to your house. (As mentioned under working, but goes for all).

That page is incomplete and certainly outdated.

You will need 2 TM7 forms completed and two sets of supporting documents unless you are applying at the immigration office in Bangkok.

You will need 400k baht in a Thai bank in your name only for 60 days or proof of 40k baht income.

Besides your marriage certificate you will need an up to date Kor Ror 2 marriage registry from an Amphoe.

Map to your house from the nearest main road or street.

Pictures of you and your wife in and around you house with one photo showing both of you with your house number.

Copies of your passport pages and TM6 departure card.

What exactly you will need will depend upon the office you have to use.

Rental/lease agreements or deeds? Now required.

Immigration did not like look ofour rental agreement (wifes name, but that was irrelevant). 1000 flats, 3 bldgs, perfectly legal document. Five years...we even had the pay slips.

Next woman processed it all without concern.

It was an ugly exoerience that even left the wife shaking her head.

I'm certain their productivity is measured in #s taken not apps processed.

Bangkok no less.

Sorry to hear about your experience, Rocket. Guess I've been generally lucky. Yes, they do need proof of address. I had prepared our lease contract BUT they also asked for a copy of the owner's ID card and house registration. This and the colour picture requirement threw us for a loop. I tried to be cheap again this year using a B&W laser printout. However the officer explained last year was a little more lax due to the mob situation back then. Had to go back a second time.

To summarise what I ended up submitting at Chaeng Wattana (for supporting a Thai wife; not working):

  1. TM7 and photo, passport, current and previous visas, latest arrival stamp & departure card
  2. Marriage certif, wife's ID and wife's house registration (be sure to bring originals also)
  3. Proof of funds (bank confirmation letter (my bank does not use bank books) and bank certified account history (I provided 6 months just to be safe))
  4. Proof of address -- lease contract and owner's ID & house registration
  5. Pictures of the two of us in and outside the condo, including one with our room number (ubonjoe was exactly right about this), all in colour
  6. Map of condo location (I used google maps)
