(Human) heart specialist

Featured Replies

(Asking for a friend, not for myself. Although, I certainly will keep it in mind, just in case. .... Knocking on wood like a madman now )

Which heart specialist/cardiologist in Chiang Mai would you recommend?

What about Bangkok Hospital? Any good where it concerns high/low blood pressure, heart conditions?

Thanks you.

The Chiang Mai University Medical school hospital (Sriphat) on Suthep Rd has a heart specialist.

I was very impressed as he ran a series of tests on me.

I recently had some heart tests done at CM Ram. Dr. Wannakorn Pattarajaree. She seems very competent if you ask me.

I'd forget all about Bangkok Hospital, all glitz on the outside but very little on the inside it's just riding on its name at the moment.

Their only specialist appears to be Dr. Suchina Hathaitham who did an internal medical residency at Nakon Rachisma and a fellowship programme at Maharaj in 2012.

I think I would cast my net a bit wider as I believe there are experienced cardiologists in Chiang Mai, it's just waiting for someone to come along with a recommendation. I would be inclined to investigate Chiang Mai University as suggested.

Ram has some good people in cardio, you might check with the head of the team, Dr Pattarpong.

+1 for Dr Wannakorn. She did an emergency stent replacement for me about a year ago when my existing one failed suddenly, basically saving my life. Follow up has been exceptional. She explains everything very clearly. Perfect English and great bedside manner. Not condescending like some of the other cardiologists at Ram.

Wow! How did it fail? Did it get blocked or slip out of place? I have six stents and wasn't aware that they were subject to failure. As an afterthought, who implanted the stent that failed?

Several years ago the University of Tokyo Hospital did a routine cardiogram to check my stents and found that they were too set too narrow. They opened them up but there was a lot of pain for about 2-3 hours after the operation, then it went away.

Yes, he is the chief of cardiology and also my doctor.

I was under impressed with my heart check there. Don't know the name of the doctor but gave a less than complete report.

The cost blew me away 4,001 baht. I couldn't believe the 1 baht. At the time I also had a chest specialist check me. He X rayed me took some sort of test out of my hand did a pulmonary test on me and a consult. 325 baht. Go figure.

It became blocked and I had no warning signs such as chest pains or pins and needles. Basically, I was working in the garden, then had a sudden pain and could not catch my breath. Then I collapsed. Was rushed to Ram and immediately prepped for surgery. What they did was to insert a new slightly smaller stent inside the existing one, as it is not possible to replace a stent that is already installed. This new stent is designed to unblock and keep open the existing one and then gradually dissolve over a period of about 3 years. Apparently, 20-30% of stents can fail in this way. I had the original one inserted about 5 years ago at Bangkok Phuket Hospital.
