Getting Ed Visa in Vientiane, Laos - Timing?

Featured Replies

Hello,

My Tourist Visa expires JUNE 2. I have all the documents from my school to take a trip to Vientiane to get my Ed Visa.

I plan on going up from Chiang Mai on Sunday, May 31. My understanding is it takes a whole day and half to process. My question is if I drop the docs Monday Morning (June 1), will there be any problem? Is it cutting it too close?

Also, looks like there is a Thai Holiday June 1, not sure if this is a National holiday - will Immigration in Vientiane be closed?

Thanks!

I assume you mean the 60 day entry from your visa ends on the 2nd of June not your visa.

The embassy will be closed on June 1st for Visakha Bucha Day. See: http://vientiane.thaiembassy.org/vientiane/en/embassy/embassy_time/index.php?month=6&year=2015&bxajaxid=&PAGEN_1=2

You can apply for your visa at any time. You do not have to wait for your current visa or permit to stay to end.

Sorry, a little confused. I entered the Kingdom on Feb 6 on a double-entry T Visa. Then I used my second entry on April 4 at which time the stamp said "admitted until June 2". Doesn't that mean my Visa expires June 2 since I have no more entries left?

Your visa is no longer valid since you have used the 2nd entry. Once you enter the country you have a permit to stay date (admitted until) that is June 2nd in your case.

Your "permission to stay" expires on June 2 !

The "visa" became invalid and of no further use as soon as it was used for the 2nd entry !

Ok, I understand. So bottom line is I need to leave Thailand by June 2 or get a new Visa by June 2, right?

You can get a 30 day extension abut two weeks before June 2nd, so could do it right now. The extension would be from June 2nd.

If you do not get an extension you do need to leave the country, if you apply for the extension you need to leave 30 days later. Indicate by the stamp immigration will give you.

Inside Thailand you cannot apply for a visa, you have to do that at a Thai consulate.

You have to leave on or before June 2nd. The 2nd of June date has nothing to do with getting a visa. You have to leave the country to get a visa.

You can leave at any time between now and the 2nd and apply for the visa. As soon as you leave the country the June 2nd date means nothing.
