Lite Beer Posted May 23, 2015 Posted May 23, 2015 Rohingya need citizenship: KasitTHE SUNDAY NATION Three key suspects allegedly involved in trafficking of Rohingya are taken to court in Songkhla yesterday for an extension of their time in police detention.BANGKOK: -- FORMER FOREIGN minister Kasit Piromya has urged Thailand and related countries and organisations to apply lessons learned from the influx of Vietnamese migrants two decades ago to solve the Rohingya boat people crisis. Kasit said Thailand should provide temporary shelter for the Rohingya and seek the help of the Sheikhul Islam Office so they have proper living conditions. He said the international community should set up a central fund to take care of the Rohingya by improving their living conditions in Rakhine State in Myanmar and developing temporary shelters in Thailand. He also urged the Asean community to call on Myanmar to give the Rohingya citizenship, and said the UN High Commissioner for Refugees should hold an urgent meeting in Geneva so countries wishing to help can take in Rohingya.Meanwhile, a team of prosecutors has been sent to the South to work with police in investigating the case of trafficked Rohingya and Bangladeshis in Songkhla province. The Attorney General's Office said this was due to the fact that these cases took place in various areas inside Thailand and other countries such as Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Malaysia.Meanwhile, deputy national police chief General Ake Angsananont, who heads the police probe, had a meeting with investigators for case progress yesterday morning. He was told that 46 of the 77 |people sought for trafficking were now in custody - and that no more arrest warrants were issued.Ake later visited Rohingya men at a holding centre in Ratthaphum district in Songkhla and met local residents to get them to help solve the trafficking problem, as the area was earlier found to have an illegal camp holding Rohingya and other migrants. In Krabi, officials at Than Bok Khorani National Park were sent to patrol its many islands to prevent Rohingya from sneaking into the area adjacent to Phang-nga.In Ranong, soldiers apprehended two undocumented men, who claimed to be Muslim Myanmar nationals, on suspicion they are illegal Rohingya migrants. ezzra Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 (edited) This FORMER FOREIGN minister Kasit Piromya has the issue pegged well and what he said would be a good start to solve the issue of the Rohigyas people, their best bet is to stay in Burma where they were born, and equal right they will thrive to be a productive members of the Burmese society.... steven100 Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 correct .... stay and live where you were born. Failing that the Gambia option is available.
timmyp Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 >He also urged the Asean community to call on Myanmar to give the Rohingya citizenship Good luck with that. Even Aung San turned her back on them.
dageurreotype Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 >He also urged the Asean community to call on Myanmar to give the Rohingya citizenship Good luck with that. Even Aung San turned her back on them. Any idea as to why that might be? Rhetorical question.
harryfrompattaya Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 Aung San is a faker she turn her back on them take away her Noble prize and EU England and USA refuse her a Visa Once again they belong in the Country where they were born if their countries are no good then the world should boycott those nations and send these people to wonderful Muslims countries that love their brothers

Any idea as to why that might be? Rhetorical question. Cuz prejudice runs deep. But just to catch others up to what you are alluding to: Aung San said they are immigrants for Bangladesh, as undoubtedly many are. The trouble is that so many are not immigrants and have been there for generations, but are unable to prove that their grandparents were born in Burma because they have lived in isolation, and records were not kept.

They should stay in Burma where they were born? So thatthey can have their houses destroyed and be assaulted and murdered by anti- Muslim Buddhists? That's a great solution you are offering!
jlwilliamsjr18 Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 The spin on this issue is phenomenal. We've yet to see the name or face of any high ranking officers (military or police) who we all know are in the game. I'm guessing it will be like all the major drug bust, sacrificial punks taking the rap. This is such a major opportunity for Thailand to kick corruption in the ass, but no...it ain't going to happen. The wheels go round and round. Thailand's doomed to be itself.
FangFerang Posted May 24, 2015 Posted May 24, 2015 The official Thai position is this: "We have never participated in this atrocity (but we always warn people before a crackdown so no one loses face). All the camps were empty, except corpses. No Thai Navy personnel were ever involved. Look! We even drove them away - since they paid already, okay? Okay? OKAY? Now buy our Thai shrimp from Indonesian waters,
