Friend's 9 year old Son killed by van in school at Korat - life support turned off today

My very close friend's 9 year old Son was hit by a van whilst playing before class in the school grounds by a van dropping kids off. Allegedly the van was speeding but the details have not been released by the police yet. He suffered massive head injuries, broken leg and internal bleeding and is in a coma. Tragically his life support will be turned off today and his Dad is in a terrible state as can be imagined, his wife died after childbirth of their youngest daughter only 2.5 years ago!

This is a message to all of us that have kids attending Thai schools, this happens all to often apparently, I have seen speeding drivers and school vans in my Son's school. Be very careful all you parents, teach your kids well about road safety, even inside schools.

Terrible to hear this tragic news, i often worry when i see them all hanging of those songthaews, standing three abreast on the back step,if that was to hit something,or something like one of this crazed trucks smashed into it,i would hate to think of the carnage, they really should not allow it. This guy who hit your friends son ,must have been going a fair clip to do that sort of damage, lets hope he get's the book thrown at him,if he was speeding, this is surely manslaughter through reckless driving, surely that must be a jail sentence even here.

My school luckily has speed bumps, but Transport in Thailand is dangerous.10 year old kids going to school with 3 or 4 of them on the motorcycle, school busses where students are hanging out etc.

Too many children get needlessly killed every year.

my condolences to the father and may little one rest in peace.

He(father) would most likely need you more than ever as a friend, so hang in there.wai.gif

Let me borrow the sentence from konying since I do not know exactly the proper way to say this in English.

My condolences to the father and may little one rest in peace.

This is something that I really hate. Public drivers (not all but many) in Thailand do not have enough responsibility to their own lives and their passengers. I think that their first priority is to make money which is not right. The safety should come first.

- They do not follow the rule.

- They drive very fast to get more money (more round trips).

- They do not invest in safety.

etc.
