I'm an American teaching English in Bangkok. I had a work permit last year. This year, after travelling during summer break, I returned on a non-immigrant B visa. Since then I've been jerked around by immigration, had to go get another non-B (because I changed jobs), and am looking yet another visa extension in the face because my work permit is still not processed. I've heard rumors that the govt is putting a temporary halt on new work permits. Is this true? Do I have to worry about this Oct 1 deadline? I can't find any coherent information about new rules for work permits.

Please help!

No new rules that we are aware of for the work permit. If we hear anything, will let the board know.

We just met five of the senior people from the Labor Dept last week and they are "good people."
