JetsetBkk
No prob. ToT. Fifa corruption inquiry: Sepp Blatter under pressure 35 minutes ago What exactly do you see? (error message, timeout, can't find, ...) Do you see this?: http://203.113.26.210/ This is "blocked". For a long time I've been redirecting w3.mict.go.th to 127.0.0.1 in my "hosts" file. But I just tried the Daily Mail... ("http://www.dailymail.co.uk" - a known blocked site) and I do get the MICT page. So that particular redirection isn't working any more. Maybe I need to add the IP address (203.113.26.210) to my hosts file as well. But that doesn't help me get through to the BBC. While waiting for the BBC page to load, the tab says "Connecting to www.bbc.co.uk" for a minute or so and then I get: "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.bbc.co.uk." If I use the TOR Browser, I can get through. I'm on 3BB.

A misunderstanding. Click on the link and you would see what you would get if the site is blocked by MICT. KhunBENQ
Can you do a ping to bbc.co.uk? ping bbc.co.uk Should look similar to this (just text in English): Ping wird ausgeführt für bbc.co.uk [212.58.246.104] mit 32 Bytes Daten:Antwort von 212.58.246.104: Bytes=32 Zeit=366ms TTL=49Antwort von 212.58.246.104: Bytes=32 Zeit=366ms TTL=49Antwort von 212.58.246.104: Bytes=32 Zeit=518ms TTL=49Antwort von 212.58.246.104: Bytes=32 Zeit=396ms TTL=49 Edited May 28, 2015 by KhunBENQ

Not good. re. the green page - yes I know which one you mean. The idea of adding it to the hosts file is to get an instant blank response when trying to access a blocked site rather than wait ages for the MICT page to load, as it is often very slow to respond. So, I wonder why 3BB won't let me through?

Ginkas
Something wrong at your end, methinks. I'm on 3BB and have had no trouble getting the BBC news page, yesterday and this morning. Certainly not being blocked by 3BB.
JetsetBkk
3BB, Firefox, in the boonies, nooooooo problem using your link... Ah - same as me, except not in the boonies. Anyway, I just found the problem and apologised to 3BB as it is not their problem - it is mine. Although my Desktop could not get to the BBC, my Netbook could. I should've tried that earlier. So in my Desktop I renamed the "hosts" file in "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc", rebooted and now I can get to the BBC on my Desktop. This Hosts file hasn't changed in about 5 years, so it's a mystery as to why it should now cause a problem. I'll go through it removing anything that looks like it may be linked to the BBC and see if I can find the entry that is stopping my access. JetsetBkk
I couldn't find the entry in my hosts file that was stopping access to www.bbc.co.uk, so I renamed the file back again to "hosts" expecting the same problem - no access to the BBC. But even though I'm now using the same hosts file, I can still get to the BBC! I even replaced the file that I had renamed with the identical one from my last backup. Still I can get to the BBC. So although the hosts file was stopping access, once I removed it by renaming it and got access to the BBC, putting back the hosts file has not stopped me getting to the BBC again. (Each of these changes were followed by a complete re-start of the PC). I tried ipconfig: /flushdns, /releasedns, /renewdns, but still I can access the BBC. One oddity: Before, bbc.co.uk resolved to 212.58.246.103: C:\Documents and Settings\JS>ping bbc.co.uk Pinging bbc.co.uk [212.58.246.103] with 32 bytes of data: Destination host unreachable. Destination host unreachable. Destination host unreachable. Destination host unreachable. Ping statistics for 212.58.246.103: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss) Now, bbc.co.uk resolves to a different name and IP adress: C:\Documents and Settings\JS>ping www.bbc.co.uk Pinging www.bbc.net.uk [212.58.244.66] with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 212.58.244.66: bytes=32 time=301ms TTL=48 Reply from 212.58.244.66: bytes=32 time=302ms TTL=48 Reply from 212.58.244.66: bytes=32 time=301ms TTL=48 Reply from 212.58.244.66: bytes=32 time=301ms TTL=48 Ping statistics for 212.58.244.66: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 301ms, Maximum = 302ms, Average = 301ms - but I can successfully ping the old IP address that used to fail! Do an ADW clean (free).... Gave it a go after all my tests above - only a PUP detected and deleted, nothing major I think.

JetsetBkk
Found it! Nothing to do with any of the above. Peerblock was blocking the BBC. Lord knows why that has changed. I've been using it for years and it didn't used to block the BBC on my PC. And that explains why the Netbook would get to the BBC ok - I don't run peerblock on it. I'll be leaving now. Sorry.
