Applied for a new visa 27 mai morning time, picked up 28 mai, afternoon.

The new located embassy works fast and efficient.

I did spent 30 seconds at the window, this including checking my previous passport and the original Marriage documents.

Got a numbered ticket after handing in your application and payed your visa fee.

For the applicants, before you get into the que, ensure you have all relevant paperwork done , application form, copy passport... Come in time, then you have plenty opportunity to do your paperwork.

Outside shops available, copy service, resto, coffee....

People are very friendly, as long as you are ;-)

The person at the window was extremely friendly and had a clear voiced english ( flawless i would say)

Since i came with my new passport, the old visa was in the old passport, he asked for it to check, so if you are in the same situation, don't forget your old passport until you have a new visa in your new passport...

He also asked to show the original marriage documents, which i had with me of course...

As said earlier, smooth, fast and utmost friendly....

30 seconds tops...

Pickup next day: 10 seconds or less... give your ticket ( received day before ) state your name, get your passport and off you go.

There are currently 2 windows, where as the right window was used for the applications and for the handing out of the passports

Being cued up at the right side of a big table, you only have a few minutes to do your chit chat or verifying your paperwork when you enter and the window starts

gate opens at 09.00 for the applications

Afternoon gate opens at 14.00 for the handout

Make sure that you check your passport when you receive it back, inquiry's at the left window if something went wrong.

Total applications submitted on 27-05-2015 ( based on the ticket numbers) 86

I have witnessed these people at the embassy now a few times, ... their behavior was utmost professional, polite and friendly

but... don't mess with them, i have seen people start arguing with them, then it turns into a very firm "njet" in a blink of an eye...

So: come prepared, have your paperwork done and stay polite with them

If you have problems about your paperwork, outside are plenty people who can and will help you, don't start debating with the person at the window

Thursday afternoon, pickup time, a backpacker, queued in as all the rest, came to hand in his application ( without paperwork or application form ) he insisted that they handed him a visa... Lucky he was behind me... Big surprise for him that he only could hand in his application friday morning, that monday is a holliday, and tuesday next week would be his earliest pickup time ( he started to debate angry at the left window, i did not wait for the outcome.

So again, Savannakhet, no problems, if you don't create some...

@ ballbearing,

Couldn't point you out to a good place to stay...

This time i stayed in "China Hotel" at 500 Thb per night

Won't stay there again ;-)

But there are plenty and easy to find...

I came evening before, so i was not picky to find one...

Next time i'll go with my own bike, so more freedom and time to find suitable...

I just returned fro doing my 1 year multiple visa based on marriage, stayed at the Savan Vegas Casino Hotel, not bad for $50.00 per night and that also includes them shuttling you back and fourth across the Thai Lao bridge. I drove my truck from Nom Bua Lamphu to Makdahan about a 4 1/2 hour drive through very beautiful country side but on some of most deadly 2 lane roads I have driven on, everything from cows to semi's and everything else in-between, so not sure If I will drive again.

Savan Vegas has a office on the Thai side parking lot, parked my truck there for 250Bahht per night then their van shuttles you straight across to the hotel, on the return they even met us at the embassy the day we picked up my passport and shuttles use back over to the Thai side, much more convenient than using the tuk tuks or bus!

Casino is not much so did very little gambling and the food is not bad but I have found there is nothing much nicer on the Lao side than this place. Also if you stay there make sure you request a room facing outside not inside looking at the casino or you will be listening to load music until about midnight.

Which form is used for applying for Non-O based on marriage?

You sue the standard visa application form for Savannakhet.

Agree 100% with bkkfaranguy,

If i go again will definitely stay at the casino.

Nothing wrong with my hotel but the bus trip was an absolute nightmare.

Arrived 1.5 hrs early to collect passport - second in line.

Jumped in tuk tuk and raced to border only to have nobody manning the Laos immigration booths for 10 minutes.

Got through and waited 50 minutes for a bus and by that time there was basically over 200 people waiting with no queue to board the bus.

When it finally arrived it was a physical fight to get on the bus and obtain a seat - there were enough passengers left waiting they could have filled another bus easily.

I would stay at the casino purely to avoid having to travel by bus.

Cheers,

BB

Any ideas on how to get from Mukdahan to Ubon after I've picked up my passport? I want to avoid the bus, which last year was obscenely crowded.

Anyone ever paid a taxi for this commute?

I've just checked on the Savan Vegas website and rooms start at B4800, can you tell me how you got a room for $50 please?

Yes it is possible in Savannakhet but not Vientiane.

No changes in Savannakhet since this topic was started. There are other that are more recent.

-ubonjoe- please

Got on another Forum the question -

why I not go to Savannaketh Thai Consulate and make a Non Immigrant O Multiple Entry Visa -

I living with Thai family and my Thai children and provide for them - I think on that basis - I not married, not retired,

I cannot get such a Visa in the region - as far as I remember from previous Forum postings here on Thaivisa.

In the moment I make Non Immigrant O single entry and sometime a Border run for Visa exempt entry - Land border and Airport border and 60 days extension on these Visa.

Thank you

Savannakhet will not do one based upon being the parent of a Thai.

You can get one in Penang if you have 400k baht in any bank or proof of income.

I was just going to look for this.  As far as you know, Savannakhet is still not requiring bank statements or income letters?  I'm planning on driving to Mukdahan and taking the bus over in a couple weeks.

You can get a multiple entry non-o based upon marriage with no financial proof needed.
