After all this time, humanity is still deeply lost.

93 countries more corrupt than Thailand. Says it all really.

a report like this is nonsense, only when perpetrators and the actual corruption is uncovered and those responsible found guilty in a court will it count - a rare occurrence in Thailand before this government took office and even then although some high profile cases have come to light it is still only scratching the surface, IMO Thailand is at least in the top 10

Most of the countries featured on the newly unveiled "Friends of Thailand" bloc seem to be featured on the list. And let's not forget that we now have a stamp to highlight the close relationship between Thailand and number 2 on the list, North Korea. Stellar company!

Your post says it all about you and nothing about Thailand. Everyone else in the world is wrong and you are right?

My personal opinion working with officials from Chicago and various members of the Democratic party in the USA would lead me to put America at the top of the list but that would be nuts.

I think you have to get outside of yourself and google a number of corruption surveys and they all point to roughly the same results.

8 of the top 9 are Muslim. the next 10 are mostly African.

Somalia must be doing something extreme to out-score N.Korea.

For the poster, above, who ventures that the US should be #1. I wonder if that person has tried doing biz in other countries. Sure there's some corruption in the US, but most things get done without need to pay under-the-table money.

In contrast, when my hill tribe ex-gf went to get a Thai ID card, it cost her Bt.50k (and 7 months of hassles). If she had told her case worker she had a farang bf, it would have been Bt.250k. It should have been zero, but all sorts of corruption is taken in stride by locals who get shafted. Indeed, half the reason corruption is so endemic, is because the people getting shafted - put up with it, and don't complain loud enough.

Vietnam above Thailand... very surprising indeed. That said Thailand only 94th which is almost certainly bogus considering graft is absolutely rife everywhere & the culture even promotes it in most cases.. Duff survey for sure

With Thailand at #94, the big man must be quite proud. The list is deceiving, as it does not take into account legal corruption. In the U.S. a politician can be bought and paid for through a lobbyist and PAC money. Is that really any different than accepting a suitcase full of cash? Virtually every American politician at the national level is completely corrupt. There may be a few exceptions, but not many. Especially the commander in chief. And I voted for him. The first time, anyway. Since then he has sold his soul to interest groups far and wide. Is that not corruption?

You only have to google corruption to find corroboration with many other surveys of corruption. Do you think Thailand pays off Forbes and the United nations and every other international agency that does these surveys?

One really can't believe all this, however I noticed that some of those up - standing countries that were in attendance at the UN meeting with Prayut - O yesterday were in the top 30, so the list does have its uses. cheesy.gif

How to measure which country is more corrupt anyway? A good method would be to look at the following; can you bribe yourself out of murder even when the public knows you are guilty? If yes, you belong in the top 20. Another good measurement would be; can you secure a top position in government if you have the cash to buy yourself in? If yes, you belong in the top 20.

Putting Thailand at #94 is very very funny. India at #96? That's even funnier.

It would make more sense to turn this top 100 into a top 20, just allowing several countries to be in the same position.

DAMN! This looks like the list of countries that voted for HRH Sepp Blatter in FIFA's election last Friday.

It's not a list of the most corrupt countries but a list of the most corrupt governments.

Countries are more than just governments, they also are comprised of citizens, corporations and companies, institutions and organizations, all of which can be corrupt as well. So, calling a list 'The Most Corrupt Countries in the World' and then focusing only on their governments is imo incorrect.

They don't have to pay off anybody, all they have to do is keep their draconian laws in effect so that the reporters in Thailand have the threat of defamation and LM hanging over every word they report.

Define "corruption".

A country can not be corrupt. The thought process of the people is corrupted. Though is controlled by language. language is controlled by grammar. All languages in the world are corrupt through grammar.

The(adverb) Most(adjective) Corrupt(adjective) Countries(pronoun) in(adverb) the(adverb) World(dangling participal verb)

I think ALL the countries in the world feature on the list

I agree with the latter part of your post, however ;)

A lot of these data are meaningless!

In A country one may have to pay tea money or in other words bits and pieces for everything you want to get done.

In B country one may get all the services without any tea money, but then tonnes of money is being skimmed out of the system at top most level, where common people dont experience it first hand.

From a citizens point of view, country A may seem more corrupt, but real damage to citizens welfare is being done in Country B, where they would end up paying for it in a different manner.

some of the countries listed on a stand alone basis would exceed the quantum of another block of 10 countries.

Country C whose GDP is 100mill & popilation of 10mill with a fee of 100 per capita would sound a lot. how about a country of GDP of 1trill +, population of 500mill + and a fee of 50 per capita?

I almost believed those numbers until I read another list that they provide " Best place to meet women" England rated 19th and they put Thailand way down the list at 95th. Hahaha.... Not sure where they get their information but sure not from the English men who come to Thailand nor men who go to England. List must be made by women or Toms.

Large modern democracies simply legalized corruption by claiming exorbitant benefits financed by taxes.

It is also interesting to observe how kickbacks. For example in France members vote subsidies to help poor countries Aficains. This money goes directly into the pockets of dictators who pay part to these same members.

Obviously these profiteers laugh well when quoting them the thousand ticket to service cop.

Cherry on the cake, they now control studies to spread their good virtues.
