June 1, 201511 yr Hi Guys, I've read through previous questions on the forum regarding a name change, but my question is slightly different. I have 2 questions: 1. After marriage my wife has taken my surname and has also changed her first name (via deed poll). We plan on going to Thailand next year and she plans on staying for atleast 6 weeks. She currently has a UK passport as well as a Thai. I plan to go to Thailand to change her Thai passport name to her new one. Is that likely to be difficult? and how would we go about doing it? 2. Also, I will be booking her flights using her Thai passport with her old name (as it is stated on her passport). But on our return journey, presumably she will have a new thai passport with her new name (which will now match her UK passport), so it will not match her return ticket. Will that be problem? Thanks in advance!
June 1, 201511 yr Similar to my post below. The travel agent was telling me that her passport must be in the same name as her return ticket. I knew that was cobblers. No point in working at an airport and not taking advantage of it so I went to the Thai check in desk this morning and they confirmed that as long as my wife had her marriage certificate then it wont be a problem. I assume in your wife's case if she has her deed poll documents as well then that will be ok. I got back in touch with the agent and talked to a supervisor and they emailed EVA notifying them of the intended change so they are adding it to the notes.

Not to worry. 1. You are both married now and your wife has taken your surname and already changed her first name by deed poll? 2. Did she change her first name by deed poll in the UK? 3. Is her British passport in her new names (both married surname and first name that's been changed by deed poll)? I assume so. 4. Is her Thai passport in her married name but not her new first name? June 1, 201511 yr Thanks and nothing personal, has876. Seeing as your wife isn't travelling until next year - and, I really don't know if it's possible - but a translated and notarised deed poll and your translated and notarised marriage certificate, along with all of her other available Thai ID, carted off to the Thai Embassy in London could do the trick to get her a new Thai passport in her new full name well before she travels? Have you enquired if this is possible?
June 1, 201511 yr Even then, your wife will have plenty of time to make the change when she's on holiday in LOS. She'll obviously have no problems entering Thailand. She'll need her ID card changed and also house registration when she's there and that can be done same day. I should suggest getting the deed poll translated and notarised either way to avoid any hold ups along the way. I just can't see it being accepted by the Thai authorities otherwise.

Great thanks for all the advice! Any suggestions on where I could get it translated and notarised?
June 1, 201511 yr Thai Embassy in Hull might do translation and notarisation in one go. Might be worth emailing or phoning them to determine exactly what they need prior to shelling out cash. Won't be cheap, though.
June 2, 201511 yr I don't think the Embassy will do translations. I can give you the details of a good translator in the UK. When submitting my divorce decree I needed an apostille which is done by the UK Foreign Office and that is sent to the Embassy.

The Thai Embassy Hull did provide a translation and legalisation service but just found this. You may want to take Trevor up on his offer, has876. http://www.thaiconsul-uk.com/translations-and-Certifications.aspx
