Thai opinion: The dangers of SELECTIVE TRUTH

The Nation can write what ever it likes about AMM because The Nation knows it will never have to retract or print a reply by AMM. Why are all his sites blocked in Thailand

Lots of educated Thais know of his and others writings about Thailand. The army and previous governments are fighting a loosing battle trying to suppress this kind of information. As another poster on this thread put it, hypothetically, if a certain stock goes down so does the military's.

"Thai education is about producing slaves, not empowering people"

"Once again, Marshall allowed fanaticism to get the better of him when it came to "the truth". In reality, the picture showed youngsters being educated about a traditional Buddhist gesture practised around the world, not just in Thailand. It had absolutely nothing to do with slavery"

I wonder if the author of this article heard a loud WHOOOOOOOSH over his head when he'd finished writing that

In Thailand there is a fine line between slavery and compliance.

You can still access his Facebook page from Thailand.

Pauline, the writer, has quite a history and spun quite a web between the CP Group, President Clinton, the DNC. She got in trouble for it and now has a bone to pick.

Lying by omission is a quite common stance here I've noticed. Like ex who said "I didn't sleep with him" (no you did the deed when awake and went home to sleep). How about dealing with criticisms author makes that perhaps are valid? There must be a few....

I appears the old saying about "people in glass houses etc" clearly holds true in this case.

well, that explains the poor composition and total lack of logic... it's a hallmark of her pieces...

but just curious, I didn't see this credited to her anywhere - not here, not on the nation... ??

This slant on truth ...audaciously quote s Mark Twain .

Truth is dictators do like kids for propaganda reasons.

And this stuff won't fly ...at best the article only feeds the weak minded pandering types

His other comment about dictators loving to pose with children to appear more human is also right on the mark and historically accurate. That politicians also use this ploy does not make the first fact untrue.

Re-read that section as he never said it made it untrue.

He said that all politicians pose with children.

Thus it's an extremely poor example of a supposed journalist trying to depict what dictators are presumably like.

Marhall's extremely selective truth is well known, although it never hurts to highlight it from time to time as obviously some people here still think he's relevant.

"Politicians" posing with children, Pass or Fail?

Not sure of your point, but here's more politicians with children, the same as you posted. Are they dictators, too?

I think pretty much any Thaivisa news junkie would have bet on her being the author. If it is indignant flapdoodle and it is in The Nation, it is her.

Just the kind of defense of totalitarian rule that you would expect from that yellow rag, The Nation.

Marshall's book, however, overemphasizes the importance of the succession in the ongoing Thai political crisis. Other commentators like Patrick Jory or Pavin Chachavalpongpun make the point that it is the preservation of the political and economic dominance of the elites as against the majority of Thais that is the core issue.

This piece, for instance:

wonderful article which is well worth the read

are you listening DJJamie/Mikemac and the rest?
