Government to help poor Thai family's kids

Featured Replies

Wow...Bt 400...enough to buy what??????

A lot more than you can appreciate obviously.

Minimum wage in Australia is about $100 a day for a full days work. That equates to the government giving $125 a month to poor people.

400 baht buys washing powder for nappies for a month, it buys infant formula, it pays for fuel for a few visits to the hospital on the motorbike. For 276 baht I got 60 small milks. That covers a morning and afternoon drink for a month.

I would not be asking what it would buy, but what is bought with it.

Wow, I did not know that lots of TV members share the same poverty levels as the poor thais hence they knowledge of how great Bt 400 is. I too came form a poor family.....and without proper education....but gods sake...wake up and work hard and you can get wealthier . Most of the poor are lazy and only want handouts.

400 baht? What is that piddling amount going to accomplish?

That was my first thought, my second was that if it were any more they'd be breeding like rats.

My MIL is living with us. She is a pensioner and her government pension is only 600 baht a month. Of course if corruption was completely stopped how much more would the government have and how much more they could give to pensioners and children.

You seem to have an extremely poor impression of the Thai people. Not every Thai family would be "breeding like rats" as you so "politely" put it.

Perhaps my impression of the Thai people is vastly different to yours.

There shouldn't be any "impoverished" families in Thailand. If the govt was able to collect the unpaid taxes the funds for social welfare and education programs would be in place.

No other "elected" government seemed to bother before now, so why pick on this one?

There are "impoverished" families in every country in the world even in the perfect western world.

they should offer free sterilisation for poor when they also have one / two children that they cannot support

Some has suggested giving vouchers instead of cash. Actually they can squander the voucher away as well.

Just resell the 400baht voucher to others at 300baht rate. Then the drunkard father or the gambling mother get the 300baht to buy lao khao or play the "dummy".

Eventually everything is in the parent's hand. Government is helping them, the parents need to help themselves too.

Voluntary sterilisation for the poor? Seriously? They should imposed mandatory sterilisation for the poor.....if you bloody hell have no money....do not bring any other life into this world to suffer. Period!

Hmmm, yeah, and for older kids subsidise school fees and text books. Which was a great policy scrapped by the last government because they needed for money for crap tablets. Oh, and because there's no such thing as a good policy if Thaksin didn't think of it first, or at least claim to.

They are subsidizing uniforms and school supplies again. The rate has gone up to a little over 600 baht this year.

Thank you, great news though I'm no longer affected. This was a great policy which actually works in keeping low income family kids in school.

I personally think giving 1 set of free uniforms per year to the poor would be better but it does help defray some of the costs.

When the dems were in office the school my kids went to gave out the special uniforms like the traditional Thai on Fridays and the sports on Thursdays for free. They also got free lunch, note books and tuition. When PTP took back over one of my sons friends had to go to a temple school because his parents could not afford the school fees and uniforms that were reimplemented.
