June 12, 201511 yr These are the last 2. Could someone possibly help me to identify them? Thank you all for your help. Lot 10 PDF.pdf
June 13, 201511 yr Author Dear AyG, Thanks for your quick reply. I think you're right. They certainly do look like blood cockles (หอยแครง - HOY KHRENG). For some reason, I have 3 different scientific names for these in my dictionary: Anadara granosa (same as you) Anadara broughtonii Tegillarca granosa Two of them could be synonyms. I will check up on them now and post the result later. Thanks again for your help.
June 13, 201511 yr The first two don't appear to be synonyms. Andara broughtonii doesn't appear to live in this part of the world. See http://www.marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=taxdetails&id=504357 However, #1 and #3 do appear to be synonyms. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_cockle and http://www.marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=taxdetails&id=504471
June 13, 201511 yr Author Dear AyG, Thank you for that. You saved me some time. I started looking it up and found a new shellfish which was not in my dictionary, so I got a bit side-tracked: HOI CHAK TIN (หอยชักตีน) - dog conch, wing shell (Laevistrombus canarium, Strombus canarium) I will remove Andara broughtonii. Much appreciated. Edited June 13, 201511 yr by Kanga Japan
June 13, 201511 yr Author Dear AyG, I worked out why I had included Andara broughtonii in my list. It is the Japanese version of the blood cockle and is called a grey cockle (translated direct from the Japanese), which is a type of blood cockle. Sometimes these become confusing. All corrected now.
June 13, 201511 yr #1. I concur with AyG and your assessment of หอยแครง. #2. I believe these are ส้มเขียวหวาน (sohm khiao waan). Sweet green orange. They may have varying degrees of orange and green coloration. Edited June 13, 201511 yr by Pla shado
June 13, 201511 yr Author Dear Pla shado, Thank you for that information. I will identify #2 as SOM KHIAO WAN (ส้มเขียวหวาน). My list indicates it as: English name: tangerine, Thai (originally, I indicated it as a mandarin, however after re-checking, I find that more reliable sites indicate it as a tangerine (wiki seems not reliable in this case). Scientific name: Citrus reticulata blanco I have also added a note, stating that the colour of the skin ranges from yellow-orange to green. Thanks for your help with this and all the previous photos.
