Workers remove the tree from the road in front of the Merlin Beach Resort in Patong.

PHUKET: -- Heavy rain and strong winds brought down a tree and two electricity pylons south of Patong early this morning (June 16).

Workers from Patong Municipality and fire fighters were called to help clear Muen-ngern Rd near the Merlin Beach Resort of debris after a tree and two electricity pylons fell blocking the road and causing heavy tailbacks.

Officials said, “The heavy rain and strong winds caused a tree to topple. It fell and brought down two pylons in front of the resort.”

Traffic in the area was already moving slowly because of minor floods, but got much worse after the tree and pylons fell.

Workers had to remove the tree from the road before being able to move the two pylons.

The road has now been reopened and traffic is flowing as normal. However, the electricity authority has yet to visit the site to replace the fallen pylons.

Meanwhile, Patong Police Station was once again flooded due to the heavy dowwnpours, and it reported that the rain water had made its way into the ground floor offices.

So,the new road and new drainage system going past the BiB station haven't solved the old problem.Only when they raise the level (don't know how they would do this ) of the cop shop will the problem go away.50 mil baht and 4 yrs-progress Thai style.
