BudRight
Has anyone tried "Jazzmen" rice from Louisiana? If so, how does it compare to ข้าวหอม (Kow Hom)?
NeverSure
Louisiana, home to New Orleans, is thought of as the US center of traditional jazz. Thus the name of the rice. It isn't Jasmine rice. The rice strains were developed by the state university as the swamp areas in Louisiana are already significant rice producers. I've only had one variety of the rice and I really liked it. It's quite flavorful but that would be a matter of taste. The texture is fairly traditional. Cheers Oops, Kow Hom rice is Jasmine rice I think. They aren't the same. This Louisiana rice I tried had a unique flavor I like but the texture was pretty traditional. AyG
It isn't Jasmine rice. True. But it was bred specifically to compete with Jasmine rice. From its website: "For twelve years, the "AgCenter" has been evolving, testing and improving a varietal (variety) of rice intended to compete head on with the quality, taste and cost of the thousands of tons of Jasmine rice coming into America each year from Asia." http://www.jazzmenrice.com/about.htm
