PHNOM PENH (Khmer Times) – Three women were repatriated to the Kingdom on the weekend after escaping abusive situations in Malaysia and China, the Foreign Affairs ministry said.

Embassies in the two countries had provided shelter to the three and helped them return home. Two had been working as maids in Malaysia and the third married a man in China who beat her, officials said.

The maids were from villages in Takeo and Preah Sihanouk provinces, officials said. The third woman, from a village in Kampong Cham province, went to China two years ago. She eventually escaped her abusive husband and found refuge at the consulate in Shanghai.

Diplomats facilitated their return, which included providing new passports because the ones they had when they left had been taken.
