ED visa - Immigration gave me an appointment ? scary...

Recommended Posts

Friday I've gone to immigration at Chaeng Wattana (Bangkok) to extend my ED Visa like every 2 months (was 3 months before)

There were 96 people in the queue, and after wait 3 hours and 10 minutes I'm finally in front of the officer (office N1 counter 50) it was 5:47 pm !

he has checked my documents, it was ok, and after one minute he said : "my brother is not here now, so you need to go back in few days to office N2"

and then he didn't renewed for 2 months, he has put a stamp on my passport : "application of stay is under consideration, applicant must contact again in person" with a 5 days delay

But he kept my papers from the school, I have paid 1900 B and he gave me a receipt, so the process is almost done...

I'm very surprised because I have never had this kind of case before, it scare me

I have never done something wrong, I have always been with the law, never been arrested, I even stand up for the national anthem all the time,

and I go to class and my student passbook is signed by teachers,

I have studied thai for 3 years, and I study english for 5 months now (level 2, I'm not a beginner)

so I'm able to answer question in thai or in english

one month ago I've gone to ministry of education, and pass the interview with success

(it was funny because I've expected to be interviewed in english and she has interviewed me in thai, even if I told her I'm an english student now...)

So I don't know what means this appointment, maybe it happened because I was late at the office (5:47pm) and his coworker was not there,

but I guess this coworker task is to ask questions in english ? but my officer was talking a good english, so I guess I have to see his superior ?

I guess this is a motivational test to stay in Thailand ? The last time in april the officer asked me if I had a girlfriend, I have been honest and said I'm single now

maybe if I answered "yes I have a girlfriend" they would not give me an appointment now ?

Any student here has ever see this kind of appointment ? if yes, how was it ?

at the office N2 (I have never gone there) do they ask a lot of questions on why you want to stay in Thailand ?

is it better to say now I have a girlfriend ?

I have a condo in BKK, and I like my life here more than in europe, I don't want to leave, I really love that country

I know I can do legally 2 years of english after the 3 years of thai, but I think I've forgetted one officer at the immigration can change the rule at any moment...

if they say "Ok you have spent enough time in this country, go back to your country now, goodbye"

what can I do ?

I guess I have only 2 solutions to stay : marry a thai girl, or get the elite vip visa (5 years) ?

I'm too young to get the retired visa, and the touristic visa don't allow visa run for long term period now...

I don't want to marry a thai girl, to have a girlfriend is ok for me, but not enough for the visa...

so I would like to ask if my parents can loan me the half of the fees for the elite vip visa (arround 6000 euros) and I would be able to pay for the other half

and then I can pay back my parents in 1 or 2 years...

it's very expensive, but actually I pay arround 130 euros to stay in thailand every month, with this visa it would be arround 300 euros per month (but you have to pay in advance)

it sound amazing to pay 300 euros a month to stay in a country, but if I go back to europe it would cost me more than 300 euros a month in expensive life fees...

the only problem is the fact you need to pay in advance all these months for 5 years (but this visa is transferable to someone if I change my mind in 2 or 3 years for example)

else, how many years I have to stay in Thailand to ask for double nationality ?

actually my thai language is not enough in front of a thai jury, but I can work hard on it to be fluent in thai

but I guess you can get the double nationality only if you are married ?

else I've thought to live for exemple in cambodgia or vietnam or lao for a while, but it's really if I cannot live anymore in Thailand...

maybe you have seen the sign at the philippines ambassy : "it's more fun in the philippines"

each time I go by BTS I see this sign, and each time I say in my head "it's more fun here, no need to go another place"

Nothing to worry about. The officer that had to approve your application was not there so they gave you the under consideration stamp. Just go back on the date it says and your extension will be stamped in your passport.

No interview. Just take your passport and they will stamp the extension in it.

I suspect your extension was ending soon. They gave you the stamp so your stay would remain valid without going on overstay. Otherwise they might of told you to come back today or tomorrow.

ok great, thank you for this info

but why my officer cannot give me this stamp ? that's weird...

his superior put the stamp in his office and close the door before going to week end ?

by the way if I get the stamp tomorrow it's great

to be at Chaeng Wattana, at the opening at 8:30am, it means arriving at 7:45am to avoid the queue, so I have to leave my home at 6:30am, and set the clock to wake up at 5:30am to be sure to get off the bed at 6am, so possible, but not so easy

usually I have only queue of 30 to 60 minutes when I go at 3pm or 3:30pm. It happen only two times that I have more than 2 hours to wait
