it cant have escaped anyones notice that wherever there are tourists there are hundreds of indian operated tailor shops , sometimes in a row of say 20 shophouses near a hotel , as many as 15 will be rented or owned by indian tailors (the rest being 7-11's)

each shop seems to have a couple of lads outside calling you in , and a lot of these lads are nepali.

i have heard that most of these shops operate at a loss , are owned by a few "indian mafia" types , and their purpose is to bring indian and nepalis into thailand. how true that is i have no idea.

if there are any tailor wallahs reading this forum , or anybody else who knows , perhaps they could tell me whether these businesses are set up and operated fully within the law , and do all the employees have work permits or do they also have to do visa runs etc and will the new visa regulations cut down the numbers of these mostly customer free businesses.
