ratcatcher
"Thailand needs no casinos to draw foreign tourists." Yes, but what about the hundreds of thousands of Thais that might like a deal,a spin and a roll and presently support Cambodia's border casinos? Zatoichi
If I owned a casino in Cambodia I get with my fellow Casino owners and be sure I had this woman in my pockect. Apparently they're way ahead of me.
MobileContent
Almost all casino in Cambodia and even Myanmar are owned by influential Thai's. I think Thailand should be fine in open one or two casinos such as in Pattaya and Phuket.

toybits
Honestly, I would be scared to walk into a Thai Casino. Just imagine what happens to unwitting tourists that walk into a bar at Patpong or rent a jet ski at Pattaya. I'd rather go to Macao or Manila for Casinos. Thanks, but no thanks. Orac
She doesn't need to be in anybody's pocket. She's the Chairman of Toshiba (Thailand) Ltd. I thought she stepped down from that role to take the government job though, with it being the family business set up by her mother as a JV with Toshiba Japan, she can probably have it back any time she wants. dcutman
She said foreign tourists visit Thailand because they want to admire Thai culture. This always makes me chuckle. Yes, parts (very few) of Thai culture are cool, but many parts are not so much. Is not gambling part of Thai culture, along with many other vices? robblok
The whole casino thing is interesting. I would think that those who want casino's are hoping they can operate them under license of the government. If there would be casinos they should be 100% state property. I bet if that rule was set now the call for casino's would be a lot less.

tigermoth
Thais already have the highest personal debt in SEA. Casinos will see the aquisition of property, increased family breakdown and suicides. Don't tell me only the rich here can afford to go to them, that's BS. It is a very convenient way for these people to launder their ill gotten gains. If this is another example of the <removed> so called reforms god help Thailand. ace
Do you guys seriously not think that any poor innocent Thai that wants a pleasant card game now can't get one? With a mechanic dealer, no limit to the debt they will accept, up to and including lives? Surely a LVS run casino with a global reputation to protect, paying tax, would be a much better option. toonsai
As long as there are tons of prostitutes, there will be tourism in Thailand. The rest is only fake and/or low quality.
rametindallas
All the international airports are beyond capacity. Needing more tourism is not an excuse to open one more avenue of corruption in this already very corrupt country. Transferring the little wealth of the desperate poor to the casino interests and their investors. The State will not get enough out of this to offset the social damage. Anyway, any Thai that wants to gamble can find it within his/her neighborhood. Hell, they were even gambling at my wedding in Yasothorn. . Don't forget the beaches, food, nightlife, shopping, fine hotels, exotic temples, two world heritage sites, friendly staff, safe environment, cheap prices with Western quality... BSJ
Siam is gone alone with the heritage that once existed. Do people really come here for what was once something else or the appeal of beaches, bars and babes. I knew an old lady in Oz, dead now, that came here overland from Singapore in the early 30's when she was a much younger woman on her way to India to visit her brother. She had some very interesting pictures and told some interesting stories. Some interesting pix's from India as well.
