PHUKET: A majority of votes – more than a fifth (21 per cent) – in the latest Phuket News poll said that the reformation of Phuket’s outdated bus network/system should be prioritized.

In the poll about infrastructure-development projects, The Phuket News asked voters: “Which traffic-infrastructure improvement projects should receive priority in Phuket?”

Readers could choose up to three options from nine available.

By far, reforming the bus system was the most popular of the nine choices, with the second-most-popular option selected being a tie between Chalong Circle (underpass/overpass) and the Airport-Chalong rail link project, which each garnered 13pc of all votes.

Following are the remaining options and their respective results:

Patong Tunnel (10pc)
Koh Kaew traffic lights (6pc)
Heroine’s Monument circle (5pc)
The new airport-bypass route (4pc)
Naka Junction (2pc)
Bangkoo junction (1pc)
Readers were also asked to identify how long they spent in Phuket traffic every day. A majority (31pc) said they spent more than an hour commuting daily in Phuket. This was followed by 29pc who said they spent between 31 minutes to an hour.

Only 15pc said they spent more than 15 minutes but less than 30, while a quarter of voters said they spent less than 15 minutes in traffic.

Trouble is, is these polls make no difference whatsoever and don't influence anybody in power.

What's the point?

According to the other article, Phuket is spending 20 Billion on a monorail. A modern Western diesel bus costs around $300,000, or roughly 10 million Baht.

So Phuket could purchase a fleet of 1000 brand-new buses for a mere 10 Billion Baht, or half the cost of the monorail.

Not monorail, a nice and slow tram system.

And of course........it won't go to any of the beaches.

Trouble is, is these polls make no difference whatsoever and don't influence anybody in power.

I agree, what's the point. It's just a newspaper poll to drum up readers.

Another thai speciality : Lip service, nonsens and blaa blaa blaa ....blink.png

Not much "tea money" in buses then? whistling.gif

You can't educate pork.

Yes u can! Just use a trough cheesy.gif

While mayors and well connected families continue their control over places like Phuket, Pattaya and etc., nothing will change......public transport is a no-no...there's nothing to make for them....public services are often similar...!

The real voters in this poll have already voted with their feet, and their baht, and no long holiday here, or do not come here, based on the bad publicity that Phuket deserves.

Just think if they had a Monorail going all over the island, look how many lives would be saved.....
