baboon
I have been reading on other threads that foreign men married to Thai women for "reasons other than love" are to be scrutinised. I am not too worried about immigration turning up at my house, but do you think this is what will happen? Are there plans afoot? Do they have the time and manpower? What do you all reallistically think they will do if anything?

baboon
As I said, I am not too worried but if immigration become swamped with new cases then what? For example they cannot even begin to start seperating the wheat from the chaff, will they announce yet another shakeup? Sorry to drone but I am the jumpy type! lopburi3
Believe it was reported (only time will tell if true) that under review process will be about 3x30 day extension for them to closely investigate the relationships from now on? For those supporting a Thai wife it should not have any real effect except perhaps a longer review period.

salween
Curious about all this myself as I will be heading to Suan Plhu next week for my first extension. By the way, what do they typically do on a “house visit”? I trust it’s a surprise visit—what if you’re not there…they keep trying? Also wonder if they will ever have a category for long stay that is just for being married, period. My wife gets along fine without my money. I'm years to 50. I don’t work here so no WP. And we don’t have, nor plan on having, any children. I wonder if they would ever say, hey, she does not need you’re support, so no extension until she loses/quits her job? I've been told they don't do this, but times they are a changin... like the poster who noted in a recent thread he needed to show (and had) a WP to obtain his extension? lopburi3
If that ever happened, and I seriously doubt that it would, you seem to be of an age where you could go to retirement extension of stay. After third read I guess by years to 50 you may mean you have years to go to reach age 50. My mind is slow today. I still don't believe you have anything to worry about - she could retire early if it came to pass.

Thanks Lopburi. Glad to hear it, but recognize things could change. Sorry for the confusing language--many years to go before I get to 50, so unless I do a Rumplstiltzkin it's the marriage visa for us. So do you know the house visit ptotocol? All the best. essay
hi everyone, i have been marrid to a thai woman now for 7 months and now want to get a non imagrant o visa and then get the 1 year extension the only problem is we can only scrape together about 200,000 baht at the moment. if we borrow the rest of the money does it have to stay in the bank for a year as with the retirment visa. many thanks in advance simon. Khutan
.... By the way, what do they typically do on a “house visit”? I trust it’s a surprise visit—what if you’re not there…they keep trying?.... I have had it twice, and its fairly light hearted. The first time they came and spoke to the building manager, asked a few questions, and it turned out we were not home, so they then left a message for us to call. We did that, made sure there was cool drinks etc they came and said hello, practiced their English a bit and then chatted for about 5 minutes. The Second time we had moved to a house and had been living there for about a year. A we lived next door to a police man the process was quite easy. My wife works as a teacher but I don't. I am home 80% of the time doing a bit of business back in New Zealand via the Internet. Over the last few years I have been doing VOA with an extension from Suan Plu on grounds of looking after my children. (I took this way from recommendations of the Suan Plu immigration police.) Everything has worked smoothly But I don't know what to expect now...
Thaiquila
Next step in the hub of crackdowns: Retirees! Be on the lookup for the immigration retirement verifiers: Are they really retired or is it fake retirement? Are they relaxed? Talk too fast? Suspicious. Do they own a Lazy Boy Lounge chair? How many times per week do they have a cocktail and stare at the sunset? Is their viagra supply well stocked? Enough gray hairs to look the part? Fat enough? Thailand doesn't want FAKE retirees! By the way the retirement money does not need to stay in a bank acct all year. They want the retiree to use it. As for your case, they will in most cases give you 3-6 months even though you do not have 400K. If you were expecting some money shortly, this would be the way to go. The money only needs to stay in the acct while they investigate. Then you are expected to use it to support the Thai national. www.sunbeltasiagroup.com

I go back home for a few months every year to keep some things nailed down workwise, but must keep on top of things from here. Technically, like a lot of the folks being caught up in the 30-day stamp crackdown, is not this work illegal without a WP. I'm already paying taxes back home. sakonjack
How long of an extension do you get after the first 90 days? Do they extended it for the rest of the year, or for another 90 days and then the rest of the year (6 months). Reason I'm asking is if they don't extend it for the rest of the year the first time, that means you would have to show 400K two times during your first year on an O Visa. Thanks for any help....Jack

You said twice, may I ask over how many years? And were they done in the initial 30-day period, or was it over the same 30 + 30 + 30 process as is now announced as becoming more standard? I do have to leave the country on occasion. And if this 90-day review process is to go on every year, may indeed be easier to go back to the multi-entry as opposed to being tied down here for the same 90-days each year, waiting? rishi
A house-visit might even take place without you noticing it. At my first extension the didn't do anything but talking to the neighbours to one side. Although we actually were at home at the time we wouldn't have known if not the neighbours had told us about the visit
