Chaiyaphum encourages rural students to study medicine

CHAIYAPHUM, 30 June 2015, (NNT) -The Chaiyaphum Provincial Administration Office, the Secondary Educational Service Area Office 30, the Provincial Public Health Office, Chaiyaphum Hospital and Suranaree University of Technology have signed a memorandum of understanding supporting academic cooperation, and encouraging more students to study medicine.


The campaign is being called One District One Doctor (ODOD) which provides a scholarship per district for an outstanding student who wishes to become a medical doctor.

The long term project is aimed at addressing the lack of doctors in rural areas issue, while offering the chance to study medicine to local students. The campaign hopes to bring these doctors back to work in their hometown.

Under the ODOD program, Grade 12 students located outside the Muang District would have a chance to study medicine at Suranaree University of Technology.

UN extends Darfur peacekeeping force despite Sudan protest

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The Security Council on Monday unanimously approved a one-year extension of the joint U.N.-African Union peacekeeping force in Sudan's western Darfur region where conflict is intensifying, rejecting the Sudanese government's demand that the troops leave.

More rain forecast in the East and South of Thailand late this week

BANGKOK, 30 June 2015 (NNT) - The Meteorological Department has predicted a greater amount of rain in the East and South of Thailand toward the end of this week.


According to the weather report, the southwesterly wind over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand is gaining strength. It will bring more precipitation to the East coast and the upper part of the southern region.

However, the amount of rain will be lower in the upper part of the country. Fishermen should proceed with caution when leaving the shore.

SAT unveils 5-point strategy to advance Thai sports

BANGKOK, 30 June 2015 (NNT) - The Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) has endorsed a five-point strategy to promote sports in Thailand.


SAT Governor Sakol Wannapong has recently made an official announcement over its plan to develop the sport industry in Thailand.

The plan can be divided into five parts. Some smaller plans will be executed in one year, three years and every year. Others are special and urgent plans.

Knowledge of sport science will be used in promoting sports on a provincial level. In addition, a sport center will be built in 17 provinces across the nation.

The SAT executive members and staff will later be briefed about the strategy before it can be implemented.

2 feared dead in Japan bullet train suicide fire – official

Foreign ministry to voice disappointment over TIP Report

BANGKOK: -- The Thai Foreign Ministry will send a complaint note to the US Embassy in Bangkok voicing its disappointment over the U.S. ignorance of the present Thai government’s concerted efforts to combat the human trafficking problem for its recent Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report which still places Thailand at the bottom of the ranking in human trafficking.

Motorists urged to slow down as over 27,000 accidents happened last year

BANGKOK: -- Bangkok Metropolitan Administration City Clerk Sanya Chinimitr Tuesday urged Bangkok motorists to drive slower after 27,460 road accidents happened in the capital last year and most accidents occurred because the motorists drove too fast.

The accidents saw 262 people killed and 61,140 others injured.
