Myanmar replaces senior air force officer after stray China bomb


Myanmar has replaced a high ranking air force officer, officials said on Monday, in a move that was seen as a response to China's anger over stray bomb that fell in Chinese territory and killed four farmers three months ago.

New Zealand man sentenced to 15 years for drug trafficking by Bali Court

JAKARTA: -- The Denpasar District Court in the tourist resort island of Bali on Tuesday sentenced a New Zealand man to 15 years in jail and a fine of Rp 4 billion ($300,000) after finding him guilty of smuggling crystal methamphetamine into Bali in December last year, according to The Jakarta Globe.

Industrial output shrinks 7.6% in May

BANGKOK, 1 July 2015 (NNT) – Lack of recovery in the global economy and diminished domestic purchasing power have resulted in industrial output dropping by 7.6% in the month of May, although the situation is expected to improve in the latter half of this year, according to the Office of Industrial Economics (OIE).

CDC on schedule with charter amendment process

BANGKOK, 1 July 2015 (NTT) - The Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) has revised Section 64 of the draft constitution pertaining to citizen’s rights in political and communal participation.


The section guarantees equal access to natural resources and biodiversity.

The CDC revealed it was able to complete 14 sections yesterday and is currently on track with its deliberation timeframe. The CDC had made language adjustments to Section 53, which guarantees the right to peaceful assembly.

It also agreed to suspend Paragraph 2 of Section 60, which allowed for independent consumer protection agencies, Paragraph 2 of Section 62, regarding the right to be notified by the state on projects with potential environmental impacts, and Paragraph 3 of Section 63, regarding the establishment of a national development plan.

NBTC sued for alleged failure to expand digital TV coverages as it stated

MERS awareness march held in Kanchanaburi

KANCHANABURI, 1 July 2015, (NNT) - The public health office of Kanchanaburi province this morning organized a march raising awareness for Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS).


The march started at Sala Khun Phaen in Mueang District, joined by 700 volunteers, locals and public health officers.

The province health office said the event’s objective is to provide information about the virus, along with the prevention measures to the public. It is important to learn that the virus is no threat to the general public. Only those traveling to or returning from the infected countries are at risk of being infected with the virus.

Residents are urged to keep their distance from people who have respiratory related illnesses, while maintaining good hygiene. They are asked to visit their local clinic as soon as they exhibit symptoms of high fever, coughing, runny nose and sore throat.

Currently, countries with high risks of MERS include Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Iran and South Korea.

SBPPOC holds workshop on report presentations for officers

SONGKHLA, 1 July 2015, (NNT) - The Southern Border Provinces Police Operation Centre (SBPPOC) this morning held a workshop on making oral presentations for officers.


Attending the event were Deputy Police Chiefs in Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat and in four districts of Songkhla.

The attendees are expected to be able to deliver oral presentations at the level of police academy graduates by the end of the workshop.

According to the SBPPOC, presentation skills are crucial in delivering a concise report in a meeting with high-ranking officers from governmental units, the Royal Thai Police and other national security offices. Southern violent incidents often require briefings to commanding officials, in order to bring them up to speed.
