Quarantined MERS suspects to be released tomorrow

NONTHABURI, 1 July 2015 (NNT) – The Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) has issued the latest report on the improving MERS disease situation in Thailand, confirming that all quarantined suspects will be allowed to go home tomorrow.

The MOPH’s report on the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) situation in Thailand stated that the only confirmed MERS patient, a 75 years old Omani man, is showing better conditions today and no longer coughs. The patient will continue to receive treatment for his congenital disease, thus remaining in the isolation room. His three relatives are now exhibiting zero suspicious symptoms.

Persons in contact with the patient, also under monitor in keep with the disease surveillance measures, will be completing their 14-days monitoring period tonight.

Those currently quarantined 16 have been categorized as high-risk suspects, while the other 52 are low-risk suspects. All high-risk suspects must undertake physical examinations and laboratory tests before being allowed to go home tomorrow (2 July 2015).

134 persons who had traveled from Middle Eastern countries and South Korea from 1 January to 30 June 2015 have been identified and are subjected to the disease investigation process. One traveler from South Korea and two from the Middle East have arrived in Thailand yesterday and have already been taken to the laboratory tests.
