African Tulip tree does grow from seed I believe. I have also seen it in Bangkok as well.

It is a spectacular looking tree but I understand that it is quite brittle and prone to breakage in strong winds.

Torch ginger is fabulous but once in full growth, a huge plant. A friend of mine has a terrific one, about 3-4 years old, over 10 feet tall, it spreads like any tuberous plant, so once you plant it in a location it likes it will spread, you can also dig it up once it does start spreading and replant elsewhere. Make sure to cut off all of the plant from the root system leaving only a little bit of the plant (inch or so).
