More than 100 Burmese workers gathered today.

PHUKET: Two Thai men were arrested today (July 4) for allegedly assaulting a Burmese man after finishing work last night at 9pm (July 3).

More than 100 Burmese workers gathered today in front of Care Con Co. Ltd in Cherng Talay to seek justice for the worker that was assaulted. After learning of the protest, Cherng Talay police Superintendent Col Serm Khawnnimit sent fifteen officers to keep peace and order.

Protesters told officials that the Burmese workers were standing in line, ready to clock out at the kiosk, when suddenly the last person in line pushed the person in front of him, which caused a domino effect and the woman at the front tripped over and fell. The victim, Sai Min Lin Sa, was standing behind the woman when she fell.

The security guard on duty, Sompong Pongpan, 46, rushed to the scene and pulled Sai Min Lin Sa’s collar, while his assistant, Athipong Sangboon, allegedly slid a cutter knife on the victim’s neck.

Police were told that his neck was bleeding with a medium wound from the blade.

Maj Sampan Namnapon, who led the police, told the Burmese workers that police will continue to investigate the incident.

Police then escorted Sompong Pongpan and Athipong Sangboon to the station for questioning, and seized one cutter knife.

Police also met up with the group leader of the Burmese workers as well as everyone involved in the incident, to help solve the conflict.

Within 20 minutes, police informed the Burmese workers that Sompong and Athipong will be charged with assault causing bodily injury.

Thank god it was only a medium wound.

It could have been worse, a large wound (or Wound Grande in Starbucks)

Nice to see the security guard (coincidentally the brother of a local policeman), rushed to the scene, obviously a diligent helpful cove.

Its good the police have identified the blade what done the medium cut. (A size 4 no doubt, always causing trouble)

I am looking forward to the police finding some innocent way to connect the guard holding the box cutter with the box cutter and the accident that lead to the unfortunate immigrant's neck becoming involved in the accidental wounding.

The box cutter remains in custody awaiting trail and subsequent guilty sentencing..

I envisage a scenario occurring thus:

The helpful guard was helping the dirty unfortunate immigrants with cutting open some boxes when the incident began. Being helpful, he rushed to the scene to help the fallen lads up by pulling their collars, forgetting he had the box-cutter in his hand and accidentally slicing open the neck of the poor unfortunate.

In mitigation the helpful guard said "It wouldn't have happened if the dirty scum, I mean poor unfortunate was back in his own country".

Police will continue to help the workforce to accept the situation and return to work knowing justice is impossible for Burmese migrant labor in Thailand.

Just ask Zaw and Win.

PHUKET: -- Some 100 Myanmar workers at a construction site in Phuket's Thalang district held a protest on Saturday morning after a Thai foremen allegedly put a cutter knife to a Myanmar worker's neck on Friday night.

The protest in Soi Khok Tanote started at 10am but dispersed less than an hour later when Cherng Thalae Police brought together both sides to investigate what happened.

The initial police investigation found that the incident stemmed from the 25-year-old worker being pushed out of a queue while waiting to complete the day's work.

The foreman thought the worker had tried to cut into the line and the alleged assault occurred.

Police had the worker file a police complaint so legal action could being.
