Muirton
So who comes from a country where healthcare DOESN'T cause budget problems? Do your own homework. We are not on this thread to educate you.
Emster23
I think top administrators in all branches of government should donate 100% of their salaries to healthcare. It won't hurt them: salary is not where they make their real money anyway.

Well, I'll do an exception for you since you are clearly in dire need of some education: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhetorical_question Edited July 7, 2015 by MZurf
hawksway
As always, politics is the art of the possible. This Military Government, surprisingly, is similar to civilian administrations. It too is something of a democracy in that the Good General governs with the consent of Fellow Officers of his level. He has to keep the Armed Forces happy so the submarines and other equipment are concessions to them. At any time groups of Officers could replace their Leader. It's not just the Submarines either. The real state of Thai Economy is not really discussed but one suspects is much worse than the General Public realise. The falling price of oil may have benefited certain areas but falling exports, palm prices and fisheries are probably placing big pressures on the public health Care centre. The state of the economy is also a threat the Military Government. Should the situation send it into freefall, a bail out would be because the IMF will not lend to military governments. So far the new Asian Infrastructure Bank shows no signs of competing with the IMF. So many problems to be solved and the General probably prays every for a return to the Mad Hatters Tea Party. It is. But only 20% of the population pay tax/ social security. And some of that is used as an old age pension. I'm sure you can work it out!More information on this website. http://m.expatfocus.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.expatfocus.com%2Fexpatriate-thailand-social-security&utm_referrer=#2919 Edited July 7, 2015 by casualbiker
Solomon
The system for the (mostly middle class Bangkok based) government employees (yes, this includes military personnel) costs B14,000 per person, the universal system for the 50 million poorest Thais costs under B3,000 per person. Before Thaksin there was only the Government employee B14,000 per person system - the other 50 million people had nothing. It seems the elites are so greedy that even a system that allocates little more than 1/7 the money (per capita) to their fellow citizens is too much for them to accept. Thaksin will win the next election, no matter how rigged the rules are, in an absolute landslide. It will be a 60%+ crushing of the greedy, obscene little men opposed to democracy (and decency). I hope he then sells off the submarines and builds a new hospital or two.
Satcommlee
Great Idea... government money can now be spent on air-con and plasma TV's in doctors offices!
MaiChai
Me thinks the general realises he can't please everyone by doing the right things, and is now becoming a politician. A day is a long time in politics...

The purchase has currently not been approved ( it may be in the future but it hasn't yet)
Jonmarleesco
Why not set up an improved version of Thaksin's (apologies in advance to the PM) universal health scheme; one more sensibly funded as a percentage of gross salary? Reserve the donation plea for the navy's Chinese submarines.
