Authorities to maintain current measures for contagious diseases

BANGKOK, 7 July 2015 (NNT) – The Ministry of Public Health is maintaining current measures put in place to limit any spread of communicable diseases, despite Thailand no longer having any MERS patient.

Minister of Public Health Rajata Rajatanavin visited Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok on Monday to inspect the anti-MERS and anti-Ebola measures in place at the hospital, which recently cared for Thailand's only MERS patient until his recovery.

The minister found that measures to prevent communicable diseases had been systematically implemented, and hospital personnel were following precautions against communicable diseases.

According to Dr. Rajata, the Ministry of Public Health is expanding its cooperation with private hospitals nationwide to increase the efficiency in preventing communicable diseases at tourism hot spots. Every hospital will need to prepare an isolation room to prevent the spread of contagious diseases.

He said the measures in place will be continuously maintained, and awareness of diseases will continue to be raised among the public. Screening of persons traveling from countries of outbreak will also be carried out.
